I'm about to install my 5th wheel hitch in my 05 F350. It has the factory tow and camper packages. Is there a 7 pin connector with mount and wiring harness that will plug into the stock wiring harness without having to cut or splice the stocker?
Thanks for any help or advice...

I had a plug installed in the rear of the bed, I regret it now. Next truck I will just use a extention cord and plug into the stock outlet on the rear bumper. You can make or buy a cord that will fit between the tailgate the bed and can be easily removed when not towing. This also will keep the cord from going over the tailgate and scratching it.

I just cleaned up my wiring harness from the bed to the splice into the factory 7-pin. The first thing I did was to remove all of those dumb a$$ vampire taps the idiots spiced into the stock harness with, cleaned it all up and retaped it. I then just put a plug onto the other end of the harness that was coming from the bed, laced it down to the stock 7-pin and when I tow I plug the trailer into the bed and then the other end of the "extension cord" into the stock 7-pin.

Why do you regret putting a plug in your bed?
I am getting a 5er soon and have to make a decision.

I had a plug in connector installed on the inside sidewall near the tailgate. I wanted it done this way because I didn't want the 5th wheel cord scratching my paint or flopping around in the wind. The recepticle is identical to the one next to my bumper hitch, and blends in well with the spray on liner. It was spliced in using the proper connectors(not cut and tape)for a clean safe install. I have had no problems with this setup. Installation time was about 15 minutes.

I just had to replace the plug in the bed and on the bumper of my truck. I put a plug in the bed of my last truck and loved it. The only downside of putting the plug in the bed is how it is done can make a huge differnce. It took me several hours to do it right and I have a lot of tools and dry place to work. You can have major headaces if it is done poorly (bad wiring connections) and you start to have problems in a year or two

05TowBoss,
I looked into installing a connector in the bed but was concerned over splicing into the factory wires. As others posted, it really must be done right, otherwise it will definately be a royal pain to troubleshoot in 2-3 years. I picked up a 6 foot cord from an RV dealer and installed a 7 pin female receptacle on the tag end. This extension cord has worked flawlessly and for about $30 was worth every penny. I use a bungee cord to hold it in place at the hitch so it can't get into trouble. Later, bOOmer

buy an extension cord and plug ,then run it down through the holes near the drivers rear tail light. it'll come out right buy the factory receptacle. you can buy the receptacle and cord as a unit. i unscrewed the factory one and moved it to the side.

new 06 PSD same as above only it's a Lariat, this one started puking as well.
THIS is how I mounted my in bed plug. Out of the way, out of the rain and it handy to get at. I did splice into the main cable to make it work but didn't find that any big deal.

One of the amusing things about this site is all the extended analysis that goes on here. Next thing you know, this guy will get out of RVing because of concerns about hooking up a 7 pin connector. Just do it!

LOGHOMEMAN...
The only thing I find amusing about this site are the smart ass comments from asses like you!
I'm more than capable of installing a 7 pin connector...but it's nice to be able to get ideas and info from others that have done similar mods to their trucks...it usually saves you time,$$$ and headaches! This site is about sharing info and helping others...
Luckily there aren't too many RVers out there like you...or I would get out...
I put a 6pin connector in the same place that JimmyDee put the 7pin connector. One trick that helped a lot on the '02 was that I was able to unplug the factory harness that went to the stock 7pin on the bumper, disconnect the 7pin from the bumper and do all of the splices on the workbench rather than upside down under the truck ;-)
I never did find a pre-built harness tap and I needed to get the plug in...
Since I only wanted to do this once, I soldered all of the connections and tinned the ends of the wires that went into the new plug. I did not use the little blue clamp on things.
Once I had the splices and the end prepped, it was a pretty simple deal to drill the hole, thread the wire thru and install the plug. I did go with a plastic 6pin plug because I had had some previous shorting problems with the all metal plugs on the previous truck...

05TowBoss--If you had read my post properly and taken it in context, you would have seen it as a light hearted comment on what goes on in this forum; it wasn't a personel shot at you or anyone else. So lighten up before you become a candidate for cardiac corner! By the way, I meet some of the nicest people ever when I go RVing; and if I ever chance to meet you I'll still shake your hand and offer you a cold one. Good luck with that 7 pin connecter.

I agree totally. You get one or two guys together in a thread that tell the same story, and suddenly it becomes the gospel around here. There is no other way to do it according to them, and then people make posts like TowBoss did. They make posts belittleing anyone that goes against popular opinion. I got a big fat finger right in the middle of my hand for those people. And you guy talk about the nice people you meet while RV'ing?
