'76 Jayco TT

I am currently in the process of making some cosmetic and functional improvements. The fenders and gunracks are my addition. Most of the other things in the pics were there when I bought the trailer. The cabinet locks have to go. UGLY. Let me know what you think. Next is a sheet of diamondplate across the front behind the LP tanks. COver 30 years of rock dings. I bought an extra sheet of the plate when doing the fenders and now it is left over.

Thanks guys.

Re: '76 Jayco TT

Looks great for a '76. I like the diamond plate, it will definately look good on the front - Forest River does that on their Cherokees.
Love the gun rack! Wonder if my wife would mind.....

Re: '76 Jayco TT

Thanks for the comments. I put my first gun rack in my Cabover Camper. Keeps the damn rifle out of your way when you get back to camp. Its a nice touch, but once the "grind" of hunting starts it mostly stays in the front seat anyway. Very practical though. I like it. Missed my cowboy hat rack that is on the other side. Should be able to pick it up this weekend.

One of the more mundane tasks is going to be replacing the rear tailgate and sealing up the rear storage area. THe amount of dust in the trailer after the last trip down dirt roads was unacceptable. THere are three tubes of silicone in the garage just waiting for me. It is also going to take some weather stripping on some of the drawers and cabinets that just open to the area back there.

Re: '76 Jayco TT

That brings back memories. The first camper I camped in as a kid was a 76 Jayco, about a 17" Single axle with the same rim/hub set up.

Sad part is my Granddad camped all his life in a tent and bought the Jayco new for Deer Season and passed away before he ever used it and my dad ended up with.

Dad always said it was a great camper. I remember the thumb latches on all the doors and drawers like yours. At least you have blinds instead of the cheapo curtains.

Looks like you've got a nice unit especially for a 30 year old rig. Let's see what some of the junkers they're selling new today will look like in 30 years. I don't think there will be any comparison.

Re: '76 Jayco TT

Looks super! I have a '76 SHASTA (the name sure sounds like the 70's!) and it has those great gold and orange colors inside which makes it look older than yours.

My fenders are beat up. Might have to coble something up like you did!

Great work.

Mark

Re: '76 Jayco TT

Man - What a walk down memory lane. My folks sold the Jayco in 81 and bought a 21' Shasta.

Re: '76 Jayco TT

Thanks for the replys. I do not remember what brand of trailer my parents had when they first started bringing me along(6 weeks old). I tink my Grandparents had an "Ideal"? I can remember the cushions being crap, and the atmosphere dark. I really gotta hand it to the guy that had this one before me since he did alot of the hard work. Now it is up to me to keep the nickel and dime stuff moving along. I am currently trying to minimize the "dust" factor when towing down dirt roads. Two tubes of silicone later, the strippers in Vegas are restless, and I feel there will always be dust. As for the cabinet locks . . . damn they are UGLY. I'll post some more pic's of the entry door mod's I did today . . . tomorrow. Every time I think about a new trailer, I realize they are too pretty for the conditions I camp in, and realize ther is some pride in making the old stuff work. Thanks again.
