After all the horrors stories, trailer loading question
Guys, I bought my first big (relative) trailer this year. 26 foot 10K axles, enclosed Mirage car hauler, going to pull it with my F250 PSD cross country in July. With all the stories, I want to make sure my plan is sound
I am using the stock hitch, with a WD setup using 1000 lb arms and a sway control.
In the trailer will be my 3400 lb Mustang, loaded nose first. Basically, no real load out back, a couple of spare tires, the back of the car is relatively light compared to the big iron hunk of engine up front
In front of the car, I have some e-track to make a 3 plank wall, if you will, in front of the Mustang, and then I'll have my tools, air compressor, etc all e-tracked to the wall. So I would think the tongue weight should fine. Matter of fact, I think the trailer may be nose heavy to some extent, but I dont have a lot of room to safely store around the car to put more weight out back
I also plan to have the bed of the truck loaded, but nothing very heavy, my guess would be 500 lbs or so.
I am using a Prodigy brake controller, and other than that just plan to hit the road. New shocks and steering stabilizer.
Any comments on my plan? I am a long time truck mechanic and solid behind the wheel, and havent had any trailer loading problems in the past, but this is the first time I have pulled an equal weight trailer and really first time I have gone this far with one (2500 miles)
Thanks

Re: After all the horrors stories, trailer loading question
Turn mustang around, back it in, and put the lightest stuff nect to the frount. rear cost less to fix if tool box hit. and frount weight is more to the back and have a nice trip.
Re: After all the horrors stories, trailer loading question
The best thing you could do is a trial run down to the nearest weight scale, that way if you need to move your weight around you will have plenty of time to do it.
I’ve also seen a few different scales posted here in the past that you could use to set your tongue weight.
Re: After all the horrors stories, trailer loading question
Test run is always a very good idea. Let your butt tell you what is right and what is wrong. Always error on the side of more weight to the front. Once you hit about 50 mph youll know in hurry if shes good to go.
You can always back the car up 6" - 12" at a time till you find the "sweet spot" where your truck and trailer work the best together.
Sounds to me like your one of the guys that uses their brain, you wont have any problems figuring it out.

Thanks guys, I will do a test run, not a problem anyway because I'll be loading about 3 days before I leave, may as well do a highway run and see what it does.
I am going to scale it as well, I'll go to the truck scale down the road that does per axle.
Thanks for the good words BTW, I'll be certain to use my nugget the best I can. Sometimes that works better than expected, sometime worse
