Will I be OK towing under 10,000 lbs using a stock F250 CC 6.0 without aftermarket gauges? I plan to get some eventually but finances are running tight right now thanks to the IRS. I'll usually be going less than 100 miles each way through rolling hills in middle TN. I don't plan to go over 65 or so, either.
Opinions?

Everything I've read and heard says that you are OK without EGT guages if you're stock.
I'm stock, no guages and often tow 14,000lbs during the summer heat, often running in 6th gear with the hammer down (probably often flirting with "lugging").

Stock towing only 10k I wouldn't even bother with guages. (unless lots of towing in mountains/extream heat) I have pulled more then that from FL to MN (IIRC TN was somewhere in middle of there) This was a 89 F250 with aftermarket turbo. (ok I had pyro)
Watch your engine guages/as you already said take it easy and don't worry.
I used to haul over 10k with half ton truck 140 miles loaded/140 empty monthly. (winter and summer) truck still running strong.
Thanks guys. I figured I'd be fine but it's always good to get your experienced feedback. I'd like to have a real trans temp gauge at some point, since it can get pretty hot in the summer around here. Maybe a boost gauge, and a real oil pressure/temp gauge too. Just don't want to use the plastic money if I can keep from it.
Thanks again.

Don't use WOT at any RPM, only use 3/4 of fuel pedal when towing and you'll never over heat. I pull by RPM 100% of the time at maximum torque RPM, or 1600rpm on my 7.3. I never exceed maximum rated HP RPM of 2600RPM and never have to use above 2400rpm at 31kGCW to maintain 60mph on the flats on the short hills.
At 16kGCW, I pull the Rockie mountains at 1750rpm on 8% grades @ 43mph and 10% @35mph @1750rpm.
Using 1600rpm also works well but at 1750rpm your adding a small about of turbo power that makes a huge difference in pulling load weight but doesn't use alot of extra fuel.
My above driving style will yield 14mpg average on 1800 mile RT.

Buy UNION work UNION. It pays off in the long run Define Union: A labor Union is nothing more than united workers with a common goal for better working conditions.
We all are in some sort of labor Union, some are just larger than others with better working conditions!
Thanks TBone. I doubt I'll run into those kinds of grades much around here, but I will be towing about 16k GCW as well, so that's good to know about the RPM method.
