My thoughts exactly, poor design. Those things should be engineered to take more then that. I think the guy that hit it won't be the only one in trouble, engineer/designer should have some heat on them as well.

no the clearence bar you go under beforehand is supposed to remove liability form the engineer of the structure in this case

no he just drove around cant you see how far out he is ?

they are only for one lane they also have another lane for ppl working on the building or the power company anyone who needs a service truck in there

There are a lot of drive ups that don't have the heigth guage. I know of quite a few myself that don't have them.

On second review of the pictures, I still dont see the clearance bar. Either way its the drivers fault, but a piss poor quality structure.....

I just got done camping with my slide-in. On top of it I have a good size saw horse to help support the camper so I am 13'3" high.

I really pay attention to fuel stop heights.

1996 F-250 extended cab long box five speed. Home made Tymar, 203 Stat, 60 gal in bed fuel cell, 315/75's, no cat, no muffler, ebpv welded open 3" to 3" DP, Babies. 255K, still chugging, and still smoking when cold.

UPDATED 8/1/08 Replace so far. 1 LUK flywheel+clutch, 2 thermostats, 2 set of brakes, 1 set of calipers, 5 CPS, 3 sets of tires, 2 Transfer pumps, 1 Injector modual, 1 Computer, 2 Alt, 2 sets of batteries, 1 Water pump, 6 Belts, 1 PS hose, 2 Sets ball joints, 2 set u-joints, 2 carrier bearing, 2 Speed sensors, 1 oil pres sender, 1 temp sender, 4 sets of e-break cables, 1 front fuel tank, 2 rear fuel tanks, 2 set of glow plugs, 6 Glow plug relays, Oil galley o-rings, Turbo pedistal o-rings, EBPV o-rings, 3 sets of Injector O-rings, 1 Vac-pump, 1 new carpet.Total $$$ in repairs v/s miles driven = 3.0 cents per mile. Add fuel to that it jumps to 14.8 cents per mile over the life of the truck.

IMO, anyone driving a "tall" set up should be aware of overhead obstructions - even if there is no clearance bar.

yup, last year I started to pull into a hotel with a Penske truck. As I stopped the guy came out screaming. It turns out someone had run into the over hang the day before and he just had it repaired....he was a little wound up.....

My 26' custom aluminum boat sits almost 14.5' tall (up to white light on radar arch) on the trailer.... I get real nervous sometimes. LOL
