I just purchased a 2006 KR c/c longbed 4x4 drw. I want to add a B&W turn over ball to it. How many people use them. Are they good hitches. Did you install it yourself. How easy was it. How do you plug the trailer in. I've never pulled a gooseneck trailer before only tag trailers, so any other details I didn't ask about would be appreciated.

I have a turn over hitch(not B&W) I love it. it came on the truck when I got it but doesn't look like it would be to hard to do yourself. The only thing I want to do is run the hook-up for the lights/brakes in the bed. Right now it's still where it came from the factory(under the bumper) so I have to run the light/brake cord through the tailgate and the bed evertime I hook up, it just would be nicer in the bed. I seen a truck that had the plug-in in the bed on drivers side where the bed humps out for the taillight, very easy to get to and looked good. IMO the turnover ball is the only way to go. I put a B&W in my truck little over year ago and have to say this best hitch to ever have... If you like to work with tools the install is stright forward... Did mine in about 2 hours, but was taking my time... Wouldn't hurt to have a friend to give hand on the main plate that holds the hitch as it's little heavy and you have lift over rear axle... On the plug I just looped mine over the tailgate at first, but have since install a plug in the upper right rear corner by tailgate...
I use the B&W and love it. It came on my truck but if I had found a dually without the gooseneck hitch it was going to be my hitch of choice.
Highly recommended on here...(Doesnt mean the others are bad) But I guess it has some of the highest numbers for pulling.
I also ran my 7pin connector under the tailgate on my other truck,, this one has a connector in the bed,,and under the bumper!
Gotta love that guy, he thought of it all!

That's what I want, did he just splice into the connector under the bumper and run it up into the bed?

I just bought a new 06 KR Long Bed. Dealer made a deal to include the B&W for the same price it would have cost me to just buy the hitch, So I let him do it. I had the Diamond Hitch Turnover in my 2003. I installed it. No big deal. Just makes you nervous to take a 4" hole saw to your new truck bed.
The B&W is well respected in the industry. I liked the Diamond hitch and would have bought it again, if the dealer hadn't made me such a deal on the B&W. (http://www.diamondhitchinc.com/index.htm)
I just plug my Gooseneck horse trailer in the bumper 7pin plug. I haven't seen the need to reroute the plug.

You might want to consider locating the 6-way in the bed on the driver's side in front of the wheel well. depending on the trailer you're hauling, it'll make it easier so you don't have to try to get in between the bed and trailer to connect / disconnect.
Seems to be a commomn spot for that reason.

[/ QUOTE ] The great thing about a goose neck is how you can really turn tight,, when turning around or backing into a tight spot...with the trailer wireing hanging down,, (usually from the very front of the trailer,,, so it goes "BACK" over the tailgate) it will rub on the gate,,(Take off paint or mar it) and also if you turn very tightly,,ie... "U" turn it can bind and tear the plug up....*Experience talking* LOL

The hardest part was raising the main portion with a rope through the hole in the bed by myself then securing it so I could crawl back under the truck to bolt it in place.
If you have a friend that could help you for ten minutes during that portion of the install it would be a lot easier than trying to do it by yourself.

Love mine !!! The install was very easy.I had my 12 year old help me when it came time to put the main cross section in place. He just dropped a strap through the the hole in the bed and i attached it.Then he pulled while i pushed the cross memeber into place.Once in place he held it fast while i got a few bolts in.That was the hardest part of the install and it really wasn't that bad.

I used a PVC fence post (5" square) laid across the bed rails and a 1" light weight ratchet strap (with the hook dropped through the 4" hole in the bed) to install mine. Let the strap just slide until you get it up high and then use the ratchet. The strap will hold it in place while you crawl back under the truck and start lining up the bolts.
Can't imagine trying to line the bolts up while holding the cross bar up by hand.
I bought my hitch, $355 delivered. I thought that was a good price. I will just use my engine crane to lift the cross member into place. How did you measure and cut the hole for the ball? I assume you drilled the holes for the saftey chain attachments by putting the cross member in place and drilling from underneath the truck?
Thanks landis

On cutting the hole use one them 4" holes saw for a drill and for the safty chains just drill from the bottom of the main plate... On your measurement go from the inside of the wheel wells to get your center and for the other measurement you have the choice of 44" or 49" measurement from the rear of the bed... I used the 44" measurement since I have short bed and a tool box and the 49" would put too close to front...
On my plug instead of cutting into the factory wiring I just used another 7pin plug and plug it into the factory plug... When not using it I just tuck it up under the bumper...
When i cut my hole i used a jig saw with a new blade.I drilled a 1/2" pilot hole then just followed the outline of the hole. The cut was super easy and with the new blade the raw edge was very smooth. One thing i did notice was how thin the bed really is.They sure don't build'em like they used to.

Drilling for the safety chain is the final step. Just drill up from the bottom after everything is in place.
