BD Power exhaust brake

I have a BD Power exhaust brake (that I love) that will not diengage/turn off. It only turns off when I slow down to 25 mph.
It normally turns off when you turn off the switch or push on the throttle.
Anybody know what it could be?

Re: BD Power exhaust brake

Mine is a Pacbrake but I'm sure they work the same for the most part. There should be a soleniod under the hood that the throttle switch runs to take the spool out of it and clean it with a contact cleaner or brake cleaner after it dries put it back together and that should take care of the hanging problem. Becareful there is a little spring in there. Be sure not to use any kind of lube on the spool just put it in dry.

Re: BD Power exhaust brake

I have a US Gear Exhaust Brake. Mine was doing the same thing. It was hanging up and needed a bushing kit for the butterfly valve. You might call BD and see if it needs bushing kit.

Re: BD Power exhaust brake

I was told by the mechanic that did the install that if the brake gets stuck "on" to swap the position of the hoses leading to the brake and this will turn it off. Haven't had to try it yet and don't know if this is true but might be worth a shot. You'll still need to figure why it's getting stuck though.

Re: BD Power exhaust brake

The solenoid on these Exhaust brakes is a spring return valve and the spring is very small. It doesn't take much dirt from the vacuum hose to stop it from "springing" back to the open position. I would take the valve apart and clean it.
