Bearing question

I have a year old P.J. dump trailer, 14 ft gooseneck. I noticed a hi pitched noise and alot of heat coming from the 2 front wheels. I had a mechanic change the bearings from cheap China ones to Timmkins and new races. The one wheel is fine now and I have no noises coming from the trailer now.

The problem now is, one wheel is still very hot, but it is only the dust cover area. The brakes are adjusted and the hub is cool. Just the dust cover area is hot. Plenty of grease. I am stumped now and so is the mechanic. I have went through the Dexter book that came with the trailer and been on thier website with no luck .

Thanks in advance for any ideas to fix this thing.

Maybe the cotter key or locknut is rubbing on the inside of the cap.

Too much grease creates heat. Pull the dust cap and clean excess grease out if any.

I second that. Too much grease makes the bearings and spindle "churn" the grease.
