I'm no search wizard, so here we go, sorry if its been beat to death. Upon packing the bearings on my 24' car trailer I noticed my tires are starting to crack, they are the good ol marathon 225/75 15's. Sooo what is a good tire to replace these with? I need to stick with somthing in the same size, but would like a little stouter tire than the c load range that was on it. Trailer with all the goods is prolly a good 10k. I never had any issues with these, just heard all the horor stories about them blowing out. They are 5 yrs old, maybe have 3000 miles on them. I'm pretty anal about tire pressure before every trip, and take them off the trailer during the winter months.
well, got some maxis st225 75 r15's mounted and balanced in town for 430.00 today, they said they see no problems with them so I'll give um a shot. They are a d load range where my old ones where c's, and they will handle 65 psi instead of 50 so maybe they will be better than the gooodyears.
I'm sold on Denmans. My 5'ver has 15" rims and came with "D" rated tires, which popped like popcorn...seemed like a flat every couple of months.
I switched to "E" rated Denmans and nary a problem....Alaska and back and all over the US. I just put a second set on my 5'ver....first set probably went over 30K....my axles not the best aligned and the tires wore on one edge, so I put new ones on. A little over $420 out the door.
You local dealer will have to order them from a large metro area, though.

I wanted the 225/15 Denmans to replace the bad (tread separations) Missions (Nanking Rber Co) but was unable to get them where I am staying so had to settle for Carlisles in Load range E (up from the D rated)...Leaving soon for home so we'll see. Could not find Coopers in that size LR E. I do not trust the tires that are made offshore but have no proof that they are lesser quality. If I could have , they would be Michelin LT tires in 16" but no room...

I searched over on the racer forums and seems the Denmans had a bad rap. I guess they all fail at one time or another, I think a big factor is the checking of pressure often and making sure the valve stems are not rotten. I did replace the stems in these when they put the tires on. You just have to know the racer mentality as well, those guys and towing can be a scary situation. Heck you should see what they pull their bigger than mine trailer with, 1/2 ton wore out suburbans and such. I really would like to step up to a 16" deal, but no room and I will prolly get a bigger trailer in a few years anyway.
We have been using Deman's on Boy Scout trailer running near max load with no problem. A friend just bought his second set of Maxxis for his travel trailer. I have had problems with Goodyear Marathons and Carlise tires. Currents running Michelin XPS ribs on my travel trailer.
I am also switching to Denmans. My brand new Carlisle spare exploded - split across the tread - while parked in my storage yard. It had been mounted less than a month, and had only 30 miles tops! Still has the rubber tits on it. It replaced a carlisle tire - less than 2 years that shredded and trashed the side of my 5er. Get the load range E (10 ply), and don't look back. Many posts on RV.Net back this up with similar experiences.
Enjoy!
Doug
