2006 F350 CC LWB Dually XLT Oxford white manual 4x4 6.0 PSD 6 speed. 4.10 LS front and rear, Built May05. 4" turbo back, 100gal aux fuel tank. A real pig from a stop, but give me 10' and she'll lite'em up.
I've been thinking that 20A is borderline. I put a 25A in and haven't popped it yet. if it were truly something shorting, it should blow the 25A also.
Just remember that the 20 amp was put there for a reason. Usually meaning that the wires are only rated to carry 20 amps safely. So if you are blowing a 20 amp and not the 25 amp then that usually means that you are drawing over 20 amps and less than 25 amps so if the wire and insulation is only rated for 20 amps then you have a potential electrical fire waiting for a time to happen.
So back to the original question, does it blow with the trailer connected or without. You could have the circuit overloaded with lights or a bare wire that is only grounding out occasionally.

I would first start looking where ever a wire goes through a frame member or where it could get pinched. If you find a spot that is chafed or flat that could be the problem. Just a lot of looking.

How many bulbs on the trailer come on when you hit reverse? If you have 4 55watt bulbs you should be OK, however 5 bulbs would probably be to much. How long do you typically stay in reverse? I would guess short term typical backing up would not overly stress the wiring if the 25 holds and the 20 only goes sometimes. But this is just a guess on my part.

there are just 2 reverse lights that come on. I need to figure out how to get to the solenoind in the tongue of the trailer to make sure there is no short there as well. Not sure how to get to it though. its inside the tongue.
I have a little more info. The 20amp trailer running light fuse blows when I put the truck in reverse and the running lights are on. The brake lights will still work on the trailer and the solenoid bypass to the trailer brakes still works. The trailer has the 5 wire plug that I have an adapter to go into my 7 plug connection on the truck. The trailer has the ground wire, running lights, blue wire reverse lights, blue solenoid wire, brake lights. The running lights are fine as long as I dont put into reverse. I am going to try connecting another truck to the trailer to see what happens.
