Brake Controller?

I'm looking to purchase a GN and brake controller for my IDI. I think that I have decided to go with the B&W but was wondering what controller I should go with. The weight of the loads I pull varies along with terrain.
I am looking for something reliable, easy to use, easy to adjust, and nothing special other than I will be purchasing on a college students bugget so if its too pricey I will have to cut my daily meal of beans and water down to every other day or go to bread and water.

thanks for any input.

Re: Brake Controller?

SmokinIDI, I use a Teckonsha Prodigy, works great, not too complicated of an installation. It will run you just little more than a Benjiman (do a froogle search, that' how I found agood deal on one). BTW I also use the B&W turnoverball, it works excellent, a worthy upgrade for any hauler.

Re: Brake Controller?

The Prodigy is an excellent controller. You should be able to find them for just over $100. There are cheaper controllers, just don't buy one that is time based (like I did) and shoot for digital if you plan to pull more than one trailer.

Re: Brake Controller?

If you are planning on towing loads of a varying weight, the Prodigy is definitely the way to go. It's so nice to get the controller "dialed in" for a lighter trailer and then utilize the boost feature when towing heavy. Plus it's nice being able to see the actual voltage being applied to the trailer. We go nuts putting tons of gauges on every measureable temp/pressure on our trucks. It's nice to see how hard the trailer brakes are coming on too
