Towed my new 5er with the truck and noticed that when I set the gain ( the emergency buttons are squeezed) there is a three second delay. Is that normal? I have electric disk brakes on the trailer? The brake were awesum .
What did you have your gain set to, and how fast were you going?
I have grabbed mine at about 15 mph gain at 6 and 7 and it bites right now. I did this on my dirt road to see if any wheels locked up and none did at 6 but 2 did at 7 so this is where I left it, they don't lock up on pavement on 7. If you are going slow they might not engage, I have never tried grabbing the manual lockup any slower, next weekend I am going camping and will try at a slower speed and let you know, but someone else will prolly chime in sooner.
This controller is way better than any after market I have used.

I have it set at 6. The trailer weighted 16,050 empty and there was not problem locking them up at 6.5 so I backed it off. There is no problem with stopping just the hesitation. I did it a about 15-20 mph. I image with the bikes, etc I will move it up a little, cause I should be about 19,000. Do you get the hesitation at slow speeds?
When braking I have never noticed a hesitation in fact I barly notice the trailer being there when braking. My old truck I would shut off the controller when going slow cause it was so jerky.
Do you only notice the hesitation when using the manual levers or when using the trucks brakes?
I wonder if the brakes are sticking or slipping on the trailer, is it brand new? Did it sit on the lot a while so the brakes are rusty and will smooth out after some extended braking? Also maybee check your ground wires on the trailer?

Disc trailer brakes are going to be hydraulic and the controller operates a electro/hydraulic unit that's mounted on the trailer near the tongue.
These units have a slight delay and some units have trouble working with the Ford IBC.
Find the electdraulic unit and get the make and model the check the manufacturers website for information.

I had heard about that, what's confusing me is that I have no hesitation with the brakes, touch the pedal and they are there. But squeeze the controller and there is a short delay. Thought maybe it was some kind of safety or something.
When you are using the buttons they command a maximum pressure at the electro/drulic actuator. There will be a lag as the pressure builds.
But as you use the brake pedal to stop the pressure is built gradually and the lag is not noticable. A panic stop will have a lag but the stopping power of the disc brakes makes up for it.
Sounds like your braking system is working normally.
