Brakesmart Problem

I am on the road and having a Brakesmart problem. I tried to call the 800 number but get a strange message giving a code. Doesn't sound like Brakesmart. I dropped off my fifth wheel and brakesmart was working fine. I hooked up to a small u-haul trailer that had no brakes. I put in my 7 pole to 4 pole adapter and headed up the road. Got about 700 miles and noticed that Brakesmart screen was showing 56 psi braking and no change when letting off the brake or even shutting down and starting back up. Also noticed the taillights were always on. I dropped off the u-haul and still had the problem. I had to unplug the large pin connector to the in cab unit to get brakesmart to stop working and get my taillights off. Drove another 500 miles and plugged brakesmart back in and still showed the same message. Nothing I could do to the control unit to change anything. Had to unplug again to get brake lights off. If anyone has a good phone number for brakesmart, I would appreciate it. Any other recommendations would also be appreciated.

Re: Brakesmart Problem

Try resetting it by holding down both buttons at the same time for a few seconds.

Steve is working hard to get brakesmart back on its feet. the code you are talking about is the brake sencer. try plugging in the little wire sounds like eather you shorted the sencer or you have it unplugged. Brakesmart has nothing to do with tail lights. Also check the little fuse on the back of the brakesmart. may have gotten backfeed from the uhaul.

My Brakesmart activates the brake lights whenever it is activating the trailer brakes. For example, if I hit the manual braking button without touching my brake pedal, my truck's brake lights turn on wether or not I have a trailer hooked up or not.

Hmm, great way to get tailers off your rear without actually hitting the brakes.

Re: Brakesmart Problem

Problem solved. Thanks to you guys, I got Steve's phone number and called him. He returned my call within a couple of hours and told me that he was shipping me a backup controller immediately to get me going again. What more could you ask for from a company? I am highly impressed and have only been impressed a few times in my life by commerical companies. I sure hope everything works out for Steve and the company because I believe the product is top notch and I couldn't believe the difference when I was towing my fifth wheel compared to other controllers I have used. Thanks again to all for the help and to Steve and his company for being top notch.
