Charging Batteries on 2007 Cimarron Trailer

Should the factory installed RV plug on the truck in my sig--charge the batteries (not the emergency brack battery) on my new 2007 Cimarron Horse trailer with Living Quarter--that has a 12 volt system to run lights in the LQ area and the load lights?

Yes it should providing that you are not using more amps than what the truck can put out.I don't know what the amp output is,but I believe it is protected by a 30 amp fuse.

example output 10 amps and draw 12 amps

Re: Charging Batteries on 2007 Cimarron Trailer

I dont know if your truck is connected to the trailer all the time (most are)meaning that the 12v charge is just straight to the battery, hence if you run down your trailer battery while still plugged in you run down your truck too, i installed a solenoid relay on the line from my battery and connected it so that the relay is on (and charging the trailer) only when the ignition is on, easy to do and saves a dead battery at a campsite

Learned that one the hard way...

Re: Charging Batteries on 2007 Cimarron Trailer

Thanks for the tip--but since this is a horse trailer with a LQ--when we camp, the truck will be unhooked...Thanks though

Re: Charging Batteries on 2007 Cimarron Trailer

The battery terminal through the plug is dead when the key is off.

I have found battery life is pretty poor with that set-up, the battery gets charged during the drive all the time. Whether or not the voltage reg senses that I don't know, but I've gotten much better battery life by charging with a charger/convertor and not via the truck.
