Check out my numbers: 2004 F250

I'm moving back to NC at the end of the month and I'm trying to get everything setup with the truck and trailer before I hit the road on the 26th.
I rolled over the CAT Scales last night getting my base line. I have an '04 CC Shortbed, 4X4.
Below is the truck weight with full tank of gas and nothing in the bed (except camper shell).
Steer Axle 4340
Drive Axle 3100
Total 7440

Now I'm planning to put my ATV in the bed of the truck and hook up to my 28' trailer when I head east. The trailer will have my Harley and wife's '03 Impala. It looks like it will be tight on the weight. So last night I loaded the ATV in the truck and then rolled back over the CAT scale. Here are those numbers.
Steer Axle 4340
Drive Axle 3600
Total 7940

Now, I think I only have about 800 lbs to play with for hitch weight. This weekend I'm going to load up the trailer with the car and bike and see what those numbers will be but I think the loaded trailer will be 9-10K. I have an equalizer weight distribution hitch on the truck/trailer so I should be able to transfer more hitch weight to the steer axle.

Is my thinking off on this? Worse case is I may have to see if the moving company will move the ATV so I can free up 500 lbs in the back of the truck.

Any thoughts?

If you are just going a couple hundred over on the RGAWR I wouldn't worry too much. It would be better though if you could get all the heavy stuff in the trailer and put lighter stuff in the truck bed.

... I think the loaded trailer will be 9-10K.
So about 1,100 pounds hitch weight if the trailer is properly loaded and balanced.

7940 + 1100 = 9,049 GVW. ~250 pounds overloaded without a weight-distributing hitch.

3600 + 1100 = 4700 RGAW compared to 6,084 RGAWR

I would say no problem whatsoever. I've gone from Texas to New York and back grossing around 9,600 pounds on the two pickup axles with no problems at all. However, I didn't have air bags, so with my fifth-wheel RV tied on I didn't drive at night because the headlights would have blinded oncoming traffic.

All hooked up with the weight-distributing hitch transferring about 275 pounds of the hitch weight to the trailer axles, and you won't be overloaded at all on the two pickup axles, and nowhere near the FGAWR or RGAWR. Plus your headlights won't be aiming at the stars, so you could drive at night if necessary.

Thanks guys. That makes me feel a little better.
I also have a Sherline scale to ensure I get 10% on the trailer hitch. I'm going to play with putting the car in the trailer forward and backward to see which way gets me closer to the 10% mark.
Normally I use the trailer to tow my race car, but I sold the race car so now I have to figure out the best load. The trailer has the shelves across the front and the motorcycle fits inline behind the cabinets and then the car is inline behind that. I've got it all test fitted and planned out. Now I just need to do all the weighting to make the pull enjoyable.
