I will have the f350 dually 4x4 with tow boss rated at 18,100 gvwr. I like my cummins and all but it just is not set up for a rig this size. I don't care what people say, I am the one pulling it and seeing how it reacts to the hills and terrain changes. we had the truck before buying the big trailer so we pay the price to upgrade.

So what is all in a TOW BOSS package that makes a 350 good to have a GVWR of 18,100??

when picked the tow boss package gives you 4.30 gears, psd,trq shft trny. I also have the hvy dty serc package and tow pakge, not sure if they change anything else or not. I did find it odd to have this in a f350 because when I started looking I was in f550 area. they are only rated at 17950 for a 4x4 c/c, a chasis cab 4x2 f450 is rated a 19500 who whants that for a regular driver??

Congrats on the new truck. Your probably still going to have to have air bags even if you are within ratings, the new 05's seem to squat something terrible even without much of a load. Good choice in trucks though, it will do the job, but it might suprise you to how much it squats.

I think you meant the trailer will be 18k GVW and the truck will be in the 13000lb range (I don't remember what the spec is)
Your truck is going weigh at least 8k or more, most likely 8500 with you and a passenger.
If your trailer is at max GVW, you are going to get over 26 Gross Combined Weight which is going to put you A) Over the tow rating and B) into CDL category no matter where you are.
If you get 25% pin weight, and your truck is at 8500lbs or more (VERY LIKELY) you will exceed the GVW of the truck
You might be better suited to a 450/550 4x2 with the 33,000 GCW rating..
no, this f350 with the towboss and the way it sits is rated at 18,100 lbs gvwr that is more than the 450 and 550's I was looking at. the only way they have more is if you get a chasis cab 4x2 but then start adding a towbed or pickup bed and the value comes down.

How can a F350 dually have a GVWR of 18000 lbs. That just doesn't make sense. Are you absolutely sure that you have all your numbers right? I thought the tow boss package just added a 4.30 ratio and upped the GCWR a few more thousand pounds.

The Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) of your truck is 13,000 lbs
The Gross Combined Weight (GCW) of your truck is 26,000lbs
Your truck will probably weigh clost to 8,750lbs loaded for a trip, if not more.
Your potential towing capacity would be 17,250lbs. If you take 20% of that your pin weight would be 3,450lbs. which would be within your trucks GVW, even if you go to 25% pin weight you will be ok on GVW.
If you get anywheres over 17,250lbs of trailer you WILL start to exceed the ratings of you truck by a smidge.
I say you will be ok, but an f450 or 550 have a bit of safety margin.
Just want you to be informed about your new truck, not baggin on you at all.

You are wrong you need to get the information correct.
my truck is rated at 18,100lbs gvwr I have tons of info that stats that you need to check intp the towboss package for 5th wheel towing and all the other items that enable it to pull that amount of weight. trust me I was going after a 550 untill I researched this package

wow, that got all jumbeled up, just click on the web link and got to the bottom of the spec sheet to the 5th wheel towing for a 6.0 with a automatic
it out rates the 6 speed and is 26,000 for gcwr. so after you all read that info from ford I will expect a dozen roses. trust me guys I did my homework on this and did not belive a 350 could have a higher rating than a 550 (when cofiged the same) 4x4 c/c... not just a 4x2 chasis cab then the 550 is at 19500 I think.
anyhow I hope you will read the info to stay infored on the everloving change.

No offense man. I think you are getting confused with GVWR and GCWR. All those weights on that list are maximum trailer weights. Looks like your maximum trailer weight is 18100. Your GVWR Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of your truck is going to be 13000. Also those published weights are for the lightest configuration of that model with one driver. When you actually gett your truck and weigh it all loaded up you will not have the capacity to tow a trailer that weighs 18100. I'm sure the truck will tow the trailer, but just not under or at Ford's specs.

You are NOT reading the information correctly. You are inccorect. The GVW GROSS VEHICLE WEIGHT of your truck is 13,000lbs, 450s and 550s are HIGHER.
Your GCW is Gross Combined Weight and is 26,000lbs. Your maximum towing capacity is 18,100 for a BASE MODEL XL, NO OPTIONS truck with a 150lb driver. Add your camping gear, your signigifcant other and kids/dogs, fuel and other assorted stuff and your tow rating goes down.
You were WAY WAY overloaded with the Dodge. You will be SLIGHTLY overloaded with the Ford. I don't think it is a big deal. BUT you need to understand that you will be pushing the Ford to the max.
I honestly cannot believe that trailer sales people sell 5th wheels that big to pickup owners. IMHO you would better set up and much safer with a medium duty truck.

no, it is not for the lightest config, it is for a 4x4 c/c. 18,100 GVWR. GCWR 26,000. I am not confusing the two. it is in black and white.
just got to the web link I posted which is to the spec sheet for FORD at FORD.com and read it. go to the bottom for 5th wheel towing with a automatic, you will see the base truck as you describe or think I am refering to is rated at 19,200 for a 4x2 dually.
