Confused about weight ratings - Diesel Forum

O.K., I'm really confused about the gross vehicle rating on my 03'. Book says GVWR of 9900lbs. The truck is 7800lbs dry. That poses a problem for me as the tongue weight of my trailer is 1400lbs. That leaves me with 700lbs for passengers and cargo. Seems very low to me.

Any thoughts?

You are not confused, you have an accurate picture of Ford's weight ratings for your truck. Did you weigh the truck to get your dry weight and, if so, was it full of fuel?

1400 lb tongue weight must be a pretty big trailer - I am assuming a bumper pull, is that correct?

Shoot, I was hoping I was wrong. It is a pull behind. It's only a 30ft but the kitchen is at the front contributing to the high tongue weight.

I guess I'll have to use the trailer for hauling cargo, not the box.
