Conventional Towing Question

I have an '08 F-450 4x4 KR w/ 4.88s. I tow a 13K boat/trailer regularly. First question - the tow hitch under the bumper has a sticker saying it's a class V hitch. And, the sticker also gives max towing weights, one is 16K with a WD hitch, and the other is 8K with a WC hitch. I'm assuming the hitch on the truck is a WC hitch, but why does the sticker list both types of hitches instead of just the one that's on it? And, based on the weight of my boat/trailer, I'm assuming I should be using a weight-distributing hitch. Where are you guys getting your WD hitches from? There are many out there, just dont' know what to look for... Or am I the only one using an F-450 for conventional towing? Thanks!

Re: Conventional Towing Question

The reciever that's on the truck can be weight carrying or weight distributing depending on what hitch you insert into the reciever. It will accept either type of hitch.

The weight of the boat and trailer isn't that relevant to needing a weight distributing hitch. The tongue weight is what matters.

Re: Conventional Towing Question

The Hidden Hitch site for cat V WD stuff: http://www.hiddenhitch.com/index.htm Products->Weight Distribution-> Trunnion WD
Google found distributor:
http://www.redtrailers.com/ShowItem.asp?id=66006

A former co-worker worked for Reese as an internship in college. He told me that Reese, Drawtite, HiddenHitch and one other have been acquired by a single company, but retain the different labels. IE: Same metal, same process, same people, same paint, different label. Some things are only available under one name, some under another, but they all come from the same people.

Re: Conventional Towing Question

Do you live any place close to Chicago ... northern Illinois?

There is a trailer place there that has a 3D shop as well as one on Ebay. Hitches that regularly sell 3D/Retail for $350.00 selling for $175.00.

Re: Conventional Towing Question

I would get one that would allow the instal of the reese dual cam sway control if needed.
Camping World seems a good spot for these, and they are all over, and ship if you order on line.
