Many people call it overdrive, I consider the E4OD and 4R100 tranys a 4 speed trany. If you had a 6 speed manual would you never tow in 5th or 6th???? I tow in 4th gear all the time!!!!

As mentioned before, keep the trans from hunting, this is what creates heat and will kill the trans. I recommend a trans oil temp gage to monitor temp and let you know if your driving style needs to change.

my understanding was that with stock trannies the lockup torque convertor clutch may be prone to slipping, especially when upshifting under heavy loads at minimum shift speeds. its may only be a momentary thing but the heat builds and as it does the coeeficient of friction goes down which makes slippage go up even more.
