Re: do you think this winch is a good buy?

Am assuming you mean this:

Winch

Without knowing what you will use it for it's not that easy to say. However, the "15000 pound" capacity is deceiving, as the fine print says "marine power", whatever that means. You're actually getting 5000 pounds of pull with the cable completely extended 28 feet. The more cable on the spool the less the pulling power.

The other issue is being able to mount the winch securely to your trailer. If the mount is week the winch can break either itself or the mount when pulling heavy.

Re: do you think this winch is a good buy?

If you don't double the weight of your truck with what the winch can pull you will not be happy.

I have a 15K warn I would part with.

No, I think it would be a wate of your money. If that is a 15,000 # winch I can fly. 1500 # maybe, but not 15,000.

Re: do you think this winch is a good buy?

there is no way in hell that is a 15,000 Lb winch! NO Way! That appears to be 1/4" wire rope.

It says it has a 3,000 lb dead pull and a 15,000lb marine pull.

Unless your truck is perfectly floating in a pond that wont move it very far if at all.

I wouldn't put anything less than a 12 K winch on a 3/4 ton truck. And then I wouldn't use it to un stick said 3/4 ton truck with out having a snatch block with 2 parts of line running from a dead man back to the truck.

I pride myself on being smart enough to know where NOT to put one of my trucks somewhere there going to get stuck. My friends NOT SO MUCH.

Re: do you think this winch is a good buy?

IT may work for a ATV,,, does not look nearly good enough to pull cars up very often, (may do it a few times,) Get a decent winch,, Mile Marker, Warn, Superwinch, ect... durability, and quality is worth the money.

Re: do you think this winch is a good buy?

one simple word. "No" It is not a good buy. If you do get it, at least put a block on it for double line pull. You will probably still hate it though.

I am interested in the 15K. Would you be willing to ship it to Texas? How much are you asking for the winch?

Re: do you think this winch is a good buy?

Marine power, means that it can pull a 15000 lb boat, that is floating on the lake onto the fully submerged trailer. Not a real hard feat since you can do the same thing with a hand crank winch on the front of most trailers.
You need something a lot stouter to pull your truck.

Re: do you think this winch is a good buy?

I bought one that looks almost identical at Harbor Freight for $49.00. It's okay for moving a dead car on level ground but that's about all.
