Don't Buy a Bri-Mar Trailer

We were towing a 6,000lbs excavator on a 12,000 lbs Bri Mar deck over trailer. The tongue snapped off and dropped the deck onto the road. After looking at the design it is very poor. I am stuck with this pieces of crap and will need to weld significant reinforcements to get it back into service.

I called Bri Mar and they told me to bad

I would stay far away from this manufacturer they make a dangerous product

Re: Don't Buy a Bri-Mar Trailer

Any way to file a complaint with the BBB in PA ? Also, I would think you should be able to file a complaint with the Federal Highway Commission or the Highway traffic Safety Board. If Bri Mar is as big as their website makes you believe they are, then I would complain as loud as you could until they hear you. imho

Re: Don't Buy a Bri-Mar Trailer

threaten to make them lose business tell them youllpost here with pics of what happened and youll report them to consumer products

then speak with the presidnet of the co.

after this they should refund your money or replace it woth an upf
graded trailer and if not you can easily take their company down with that story

Re: Don't Buy a Bri-Mar Trailer

How much tongue weight were you rocking on that trailer when it snapped? Do you have any pics? I would love to see where it let go and how it is designed. Good luck getting it back up and running.

The mfr will just argue improper loading on your part. Was it the tongue or the coupler that failed?

Just remember one thing! Our legal system is designed by lawyers to benefit other lawyers.

Might as well save yourself a lot of money and headaches, just fix it your self, or have it fixed. I too would love to see pictures!

Re: Don't Buy a Bri-Mar Trailer

I have a Bri-Mar CH18 that I have been very happy with, FWIW... The construction seems more than adequate on mine. I looked at a lot of trailers before I bought it.

Re: Don't Buy a Bri-Mar Trailer

trialer pictures

When I called Bri Mar they began right away with " must have been over loaded" , "too much tongue weight" etc. I have had my tree business for over 20 years, I also haul horses over 15,000 miles a year for competition. Loading a trailer properly is not the problem and we never haul over 8,000lbs on a 12,000lbs rated trailer.

Since we are a business we use the trailer regularly, If you own one and haul twice a year your piece of junk may last forever.

IT IS A BAD DESIGN

Not running the channels that form the tongue farther under the trailer is the problem. Our other trailers both have the channels running 4 to 6 feet under the deck. not just butt welded to the front of the deck. When looking at a trailer to purchase keep this in mind

I wish I had pics of the scene in the middle of the road with the tongue on the ground and the back end of the trailer 6 feet in the air. I was only concerned about getting out of the road before a D.O.T. cop showed up to write tickets.

Re: Don't Buy a Bri-Mar Trailer

From what I can see in the pictures; I agree I don’t like the design either! But it also looks like a lot of salt damage. Did I miss it? How old is this trailer? When was the last time it was sanded down, and painted? I’ve heard some horror stories of pickup truck frame failures from salt damage!
Hard to tell from the pictures, but looks like you, (someone) has to cut a whole lot of material out to get back to good iron. Break out the torch, and get busy!

Right, it looks far from new, who knows what's been on it in the past. But it's amazing how many people can make a "knowledgable" judgement and give out an opinion merely by looking at a computer monitor.

Yessir, I've always found there's two sides to every story.

LOL! I’m one that has to touch it, to really see it. Can’t tell you how many times my mom slapped my hands in a store when I was a kid!
