dump trailer is pretty wide (102) So i have a couple of questions
When construction crews separate lanes in work areas, do they leave 102 inches for us to get through? I am not used to towing this wide, but i hope i get used to it. I have been going slower and looking in the mirrors to see how far i am from the lines. It can get pretty tight in some areas. Any suggestions or words of wisdom? Is there anywhere that i am not going to fit on regular roads? Thanks

102" is the standard max width. You should NEVER have any trouble going anywhere with it. UNLESS there are signs forbidding wide loads. You will still likely be fine but can be fined (as in $$) It is really not that much wider. Just seems like it.

I don't know what D.O.T. requirements are but I drove big trucks for 12 years or so and the 102 wide trailers fit everywhere I went with room to spare (sometimes NOT MUCH - a foot on each side looks like you won't fit at 35 MPH). Unless I am mistaken (Which I often am, according to Lovely wife and the kids) wide load prohibited means overdimension loads, in excess of 102" wide.

Re: dump trailer is pretty wide (102) So i have a couple of questions
I went to the New York web site. 102 trailers are allowed on Interstates and designated roades in new york. If the road is less than 10 foot no 102 trailers. And to answer your question. Most of the time they do. Some of the time they dont and cones loose there fine finish. Just remember the size and weight limits put on by states have nothing to do with being comercial or not. It is the size and weight you are.

there is no restriction against 102" wide trailers .... anywhere!!

There may be an RV exemption but the state of Virginia requires special permits to run off the interstates with trailers over 45' long or 96" wide unless it has been recently repealed. I had to carry a permit to go to Dillwyn, VA and had to take a special route, had a different speed limit than the rest of the world across two bridges. May be due to commercial vehicle though.

Re: dump trailer is pretty wide (102) So i have a couple of questions
Good article! They mention never hearing of an RV'er being stopped for being over.....I have. Wasn't California ticketing RVs awhile back when they were over because of their *rolled up awnings* adding extra width?
As for someone saying they've never seen roads with less than 10 ft lanes, just come south, lots of county roads with less than that.
When I owned boats with 102 width trailers my route to the local lake was nerve racking, one tire on the center line, one on the edge line
Re: dump trailer is pretty wide (102) So i have a couple of questions
You guys are making me a little nervous. I dont understand why they would even make it if the laws are such a pita. In my case, this will be mostly a local trailer. But i dont like the fact that i have to worry about it, if i take it on a longer distance.
