Early PSD rear springs

My 94 has had saggy rear springs for a while- especially drivers side sags like 1-2 inches more than passenger side. I carry a 1500lb. popup camper for months at a time. I have already tried a add-a-leaf and sag is the same. I am not real interested in airbags because I just dont want to have to deal with monitoring pressure, etc. plus I think the springs should be in good shape to start with. I see in several catalogs that the original 4+1 2800lb. springs can be replaced with 6+1 4200lb. springs. The salesman says the truck will have the same ride height-they are just arched differently to compensate. Does anyone have these or have an opinion? Would this be an easy bolt on job? Thank you

Re: Early PSD rear springs

lomile,

Make sure you do not have a leaf or 2 broken in your stacks. I had 2 cracked on one side and 1 on the other resulting in a sag. I had never been overloaded- the spring shop said it was likely bad springs combined with a lack of load causing a lot of bouncing that caused the problem.

Good luck!

Where had the springs cracked? Was it obvious by just looking at them?

Re: Early PSD rear springs

Springs usually crack at the center bolt and usually easy to see.

Re: Early PSD rear springs

I dont have any broken springs. At one point someone said this problem is common in ford diesels due to twisting torque that somehow only affects drivers side. Anyway- I am still looking for comments on the thicker spring packs. Any reason not to besides it will ride a little stiffer I know. Thanks
