hey all,im about to tow a 9000# boat from ky to fl.Ive got a 00 f-250 psd with the tow package.I just found out the trailer has electric brakes and my truck isnt set up for it.the wiring harness is in the glove box but i have no idea where it goes or how to hook it up.i realise i need a controller but which one?Ill probably never tow electric again so id like to go fairly inexpensive.any help on how to hook up and what i need to buy would be greatly appreciated.thanks Al
I know I'll get flamed; but, if you don't care to go "raw dog", you can run a hot wire through a self-centering switch that feeds the trailer-brake wire.
Attach the switch to the gear-pole, where it will be handy.
When you need trailer brakes, hit the switch.
Don't ask me why I know this will work better than you think.
You can get the boxes with the plug already on them for Fords. Plugs in under the dash by your right knee. You have to look up under the dash to find the plug. The wiring harness is to attach to a brake box that isn't already wired for Ford. Usually there is a relay with the plug that goes in the fuse box under the hood.

Does the trailer have straight up electric brakes, or does it have electric hydraulic brakes. Most brake controllers will not run elec. hyd. brakes. They are better brakes, but you have to spend more money on the controller.

If you want to see where to hook up the brake controller, click the link that I have for my Prodigy brake controller in my sig.
One of the three pictures in that album shows you where to plug into the wiring harness under the dash.
