Firestone Air Bag Kits

Hello, Hoping to get clarification on which Firestone Air Bag kit to purchase for my '00 F-250 with Reese 16K hitch mounted with the Reese custom fit (no drill) hitch mount frame brackets. The two I've found are the Firestone 2071 and 2330 kits. I'd prefer not to drill into my frame, but I don't understand how the 2330 kit works, and if it will work with my frame brackets.

Thanks very much, Tom

The 2330 kit mounts the bags inboard of the frame, I've got this setup on my truck but with no 5th wheel hitch.

Here's the diagrams of installation:

You are going to find out the custom brackets will be in the road when you install the inboard airbags, you have two choices remove the brackets and install the airbags then put the brackets back on, the other choice is to drill a hole big enough thru the custom brackets that you can install the large bolt and nut that holds the upper bracket for the airbags thru the exsisting holes in the frame, this will also allow you to remove the airbags if you want without having to remove the custom hitch brackets, and to hold the bolt with a socket to keep it from turning. It is a good setup , but drilling that hole makes everthing much easier to install, you might be able to get a wrench between the custom bracket and frame to hold the bolt if they come loose and you needed to tighten them and they wanted to spin, but I didn't want the hassle of taking off the brackets to install . You have to make sure you lay the hole out accurate, I drilled a 1*3/4 hole thru the custom brackets with a sharp metal hole saw, it was no big deal. I have put a lot of miles on them with no problems. Let me know if I can be of any further help.

Thanks very much for the reply! I was hoping to find someone who had installed this kit with the custom hitch brackets.

up2nogood,
I have a Reese Sig Series 18k Slider going into my truck. (I know I don't need the slider, but it came off my short bed, and I love the hitch) I assume they are using the custom brackets. I am hoping I won't need bags, but if I do, all I need to do is drill those 2 holes?

Thanks for the info.......

You will if you do not want to remove the custom brackets there is no way to get to the hole for the airbag brackets, I wanted that bolt exposed so if I needed to remove the airbags I could, I wanted to make the airbags and custom brackets independent of each other.
