I have an 05 crewcab. When i tow my 5th wheel i'd like to be able to flash the trailer marker lights when someone lets me in.Does anyone have a thought on how to do this ???? I figure i'll just put a toggle or a push button somewhere on the dash....just need to find out how to hook the darn thing up.If it can be done ???
If your trailer lights are wired as they should be, totally independent of the headlight system, then you simply flip the trailer-light switch.
I am not a big fan of the factory supplied trailer wiring harness, as it is not independent of the truck lighting system.
They are popular, only because any idiot can plug in a trailer harness.
Trailer lights should be on there own dedicated system, totally independent of any part of the factory wiring, drawing power direct from a battery terminal.
I wired my truck up to do that. There were a couple threads about doing it a while back. Mine isn't the most technical, but it works. Click here to see the switch. I spliced into the taillight wire coming out of the headlight switch and routed it through that switch. It's a "momentary off" when you push down. The only down-side is that it blinks everything except the headlights. That includes the front markers and the dash lights. A TDS member had posted about a setup he used utilizing relays, which would even flash them on when the lights were off. Maybe he'll chime in.
Hope this helps...
yea, E-flasher for a second that is what I do,, or barely tap the brakes a couple times, that gets the point across. I would hate to cut into the wireing and mess with stuff like that for such a trivial reason, no offence. But when you mess with the wireing, you are asking for possible troubles down the road, ya know?

I always thought it would be fun to mount a seperate set of "thank you" lights on the back of the truck. Couple of strobes, or a Bat Signal thrown onto the ground with laser beams LOL (OK maybe that might be a tad much) but skies the limit on that deal. How about a LED board that says thank you...

I came up with a mod that requires three SPDT relays and a momentary switch/button. It is all tied to the wiring harness behind the headlight switch, and once the relays are wired, it only requires a few simple connections to be up and running. If you ever have any trouble with it, you just pop out the healight switch and put the parking light wire back together and everything is back to normal.
The single momentary button will turn your markers on if the headlight switch is off, and blink them off if the factory switch is on. Headlight operation is not affected, but the fogs will go off with the parks. The only real drawback is that you cannot flash your p-lights off if they have been turned on by the autolamp system.
Lotsa good idea's fer shure. The easiest would be to do nothing and just use the emergency flashers. And as far as breaking into the wiring goes.....i don't really like to do that but sometimes you just gotta.
I could just keep doing what i've been doing(using my turn sig after moving over),but i wanted to do something different just for the heck of it.
I'll look into that link using those relays and see what that looks like.
I thought that the trailer wiring in the SuperDuties was a separate run originating in a set of relays under the hood? If that is true, could you not then just add a momentary 12v feed to the trailer lights at that point (after the relay) so that it would not affect the truck wiring?

I do the E-flash thing. I had a CB in my last truck so I would also tell them thanks over the radio. I haven't got around to installing one in this truck.
