For those of you who have either the Gear Vendor or US Gear Over/Under drive units I would like to hear your comments. How long have you had it...any problems with the units...advantages of either unit...positive and negative comments welcome.
Thanks,
Griz

Re: Gear Vendor or US Gear Over/Under drive units.
Griz,
I ran a US Gear under drive for twelve years with no problems. It was mounted between the transmission and the transfer case. I loved that truck and hated selling it. Gear Vendor is sold only as an overdrive and it replaces the tail cone on the transfer case or transmission.
Re: Gear Vendor or US Gear Over/Under drive units.
Wonderer54...what type of transmission were you using with the US Gear Over/Under drive unit? Who did the install for you? Did you notice any mileage gains or just made it easier when towing to have more gears available?

the gear venders works as an under and an over drive, i had one installed on my 63 fairlane becase it has a 3 speed in it with 4.10s...not good on freeways, ill soon buy one for my 97 f350 too, it has the ability to split gears which is mainly why i want it. Example with out gear vendors: your half way up a big nasty hill and are losing momentum, so you drop a gear, now your either stuck babying that gear or puting it back into drive (in which you will probably lose momentum again) orrrrrrrrrrr with the gear vendors when you drop a gear and get back up to a nice speed hit the gear vendors switch and its like a over drive for that gear! i love it for my car and would its even better while towing and on a diesel engine..... my car also runs cooler now when its in the overdrive funtion...big plus for me
forgot to add that mine was installed by mustangs and fast fords oc, in santa ana california. the shop does mostly mustang things but i talked to the owner and they are licened to do gear vendors installs on all cars and trucks so he told me when ever i want it, he would order it for me and do that install too....i got some pics i can post if you want....just dont flame me for a gasser car on a diesel truck forum
I have a Gear Vendors unit out of a motorhome that I want to put on my truck. Not sure if it can be done though... I mainly want it for double overdrive on the freeway. I talked to Unitrax and Gear Vendors yesterday and found that this will cost close to $2,000 to make it work with my truck... Even though I have a complete, near new unit with electronics.
