Gooseneck Fab

Looking for thoughts on a Anti-Twist tube welded underneath to the crossmembers that runs from the front of the deck to, say, the front axle.

Planning out a 30'gooseneck used for general purpose stuff, mostly 2 wheeling rigs.

Pipe? Tubing? 4"? 6"? Don't bother?

My vote's on the "don't bother" option. When was the last time you saw one on a trailer? I don't recall ever seeing one.

Re: Gooseneck Fab

The tube will definately help prevent twisting. However, if your just hauling a couple of vehicles, I don't think it's worth the $300 cost.

Re: Gooseneck Fab

More and more companies are now using the torque tubes as standard equipment instead of a factory option. I like the idea myself.

One example of OEM gooseneck tube Click Me

Torque tube(reduces left to right sway if loads are off center) Others charge up to $375 to do this (Others claim their trailers don't need a torque tube because their trailers are "better built") basic engineering dictates that any heavy loads either left or right of center of gravity is going to cause extra stress on the frame. The torque tube ELIMINATES any off C.G. squat that will occur.

Re: Gooseneck Fab

If you think those are nice, check out the Legend Trailers. A little more beef where it counts for the same money.

Since I'm a AWS CWI (certified weld inspector) the first thing I noticed on the Legend is the weld quality and craftsmanship. When I got the trailer home with a dolley inspection I was not disappointed either.

The first 50 miles pulling the new trailer, my wife commented on how smooth the trailer pulled, ie; no road rocking empty or fully loaded. I've never had a trailer pull this smooth, ya even one of my own made trailers.

The torque tube stops the deck from twisting when you load one side of the deck. Like sitting down the load on the deck edge then sliding the load to the center of the deck. I ran my 10k ag-tractor forward while hitched and the bed didn't dip on the corners at all. Alot of that was because I didn't have room on the deck to load just one side of the deck because of the ag-tractor width.

Trying to add a torque tube after the trailers built??? You got your work cut out for you as that would be a job in a half after the fact. I'd sell the trailer I had and buy a new trailer with a torque tube.

Buy UNION work UNION. It pays off in the long run
Define Union:
A labor Union is nothing more than united workers with a common goal for better working conditions.

We all are in some sort of labor Union, some are just larger than others with better working conditions!

Re: Gooseneck Fab

T-Bone -- You should try pulling one of the Brute Trailers. Absolutely the smoothest pulling tandem dual gooseneck I've pulled. No sway, no drift, no hop, smooth tracking, and unbelieveably quick electric brake response (even fully loaded). I have one of their 28' flat decks with Dexter tandem duals -- I cannot say enough about the quality of the trailer. All my research before buying this trailer lead me to the conclusion that you get a lot more trailer for the money with Brute. The people at Brute are also terrific to deal with.
