Gooseneck trailer, an excavator, and my stock '03

20 miles of secondary and state roads, fair amount of moderate hills.

20,000lbs: truck, trailer, excavator...and me.

Towed very well, although I could tell it was working under the load.

Sure, a 6.0L, Duramax, or current Cummins could have towed it a little better in terms of overall power, but it did the job just fine, thank you.

And I didn't get there late due to lack of power, either.

Actually there are many members on here, I could be wrong, that would say the 7.3 pulls better then the 6.0, who wants to melt down the dmax block? and who'd want to be seen in a dodge?!

Re: Gooseneck trailer, an excavator, and my stock '03

allright newbie, well get along just fine if ya dont go talkin about my goat. folks youd be suprised as to just how close these things all pull loads about the same.the 6.0 does have a top end advantage, but lacks on the bottom end.let me restate it pulls well down low also, but not as well as on the high end of it's rpm's. when i bought my 05 dodge i figured there would be a drastic difference in the pulling,as compared to my 7.3.fact is the 7.3 would edge it out under the same conditions[towing heavy],but once the dodge got broke in i would say it now has a slight advantage.but then again it should,610 lbs of trq compared to the 7.3 with 520lbs,but like i said not much difference, and i constantly have to keep an eye on the egt's of the dodge.

Re: Gooseneck trailer, an excavator, and my stock '03

I know my truck with me in it and 3/4 tank of fuel weighs 7,400lbs. This means the loaded trailer weighed in at 12,600lbs. The truck pulled it with confidence, although I would NOT have wanted to use a tag-a-long trailer instead of the gooseneck. The goose put some of the weight on the front axle and made the truck track and pull with much more stability.

250hp and 525tq on my stocker.
