HELP with Jordan brake controller!!

I Installed a Jordan Ultima 2020 in the truck in my signature last night (adjustable pedal model) just under the cubby hole. We tried for 2 hours to get the cable routed where it would move engage and freely return to inactive. We fastened the cable in front of the brake pedal and about 6" to the right, just under the fuse box panel. It still shows 0.1 on the display and while driving the hour to work this morning, it went to 0.2 Any ideas? Tricks? Thanks.

Re: HELP with Jordan brake controller!!

I mounted mine under the cubby and had the cable make a very lazy S to a point about 2" off centerline for the adjustable brake pedal. The cable then went directly to the bracket mounted on the pedal. My cable did bind a bit after 2 years use and I contacted Jordan and he said he would replace the cable. This is the most difficult part of dealing with the Jordan controller........ routing the cable. I wish I still had it mounted as I would send you some pics.

Re: HELP with Jordan brake controller!!

Ditto on what hnh2 said......I mounted mine in the same place and the cable was just long enough to line up with the brake pedal arm. When first installed, I had a catch or "pop" in the cable when braking. I took the cable out of the sleeve (or sleeve off the cable, it's been a while) and wiped it down with some Permatex silicon spray lube. It's been working like a champ ever since. I towed a 12K fiver about 6500 miles last year. I haven't adjusted anything since the original set up. This Jordan may go down as the best controller for the $ I've ever used. They are a little testy when setting up the cable, but I soon got over it the first time I hit the brakes and experienced the smoothness of the engagement. Good Luck!

Re: HELP with Jordan brake controller!!

cj7zrcool2,

The Jordan Ultima 2020 will display 0.1-0.2 when the pedal is pushed and without the trailer connected. This is apparently the current draw of the unit itself. It should not display anything until the pedal is depressed.

I would suspect your cable housing is binding (as the others indicate).

I suggest looking at the spring cylinder at the brake pedal arm. Make sure the cylinder is 'free floating'. If it has just the slightest pressure it may cause the controller to register pressure and the controller will turn on. Perhaps a test would be remove the cylinder from the pedal and see if the reading goes away.

Here is what I did to provide some very fine tuning to the adjustment. A homemade metal/alum bracket and about $0.30 for a nylon 1/4"x20 screw drilled with a 1/16"dia drill.
