Help me get rid of these Firestones

I have a stock 2003 F350 crew cab FX, 47000 miles. I want to replace the original Firestone Steetex 265/75/16 with Michelin XPS ribs. I have seen many posts of satisfied owners who are using the XPS. I have been to 2 tire dealers, Costco and Tire Kingdom and they both refuse to install the XPS. The reason given is that ONLY the original Ford installed and recommended tire size will work on my rims. I have the stock Aluminum rims. Costco's story was "company policy they will only install original factory recommended size. Tire Kingdom " The tire is too narrow and too small" They recommend installing the Michelin LTX 265/75/16.
Then finally I just came from the Michelin web site and when I input my vehicle information it comes back with:
" Your vehicle: 2003 FORD F-350 Super Duty 4x4 Super Cab (GVWR 9900)
Your vehicle's original equipment tire size: LT265/75R16/E
We're sorry. There are no tire matches for your vehicle. "

What am I doing wrong ? Any help would be appreciated.

i've heard that it is a leagl thing, "you can only put tires on that match the specs" Find a shop that turns a blind eye to this and enjoy your tires.

Re: Help me get rid of these Firestones

Total crap, in my opinion.

A 265 is only 30 mm wider than a 235/85R16 (stock on a dually). On a 7" rim it fits fine.

Yeah, they are a bit thinner, but the diameter is about the same. You might even notice an improvement in fuel mileage.

265/75 multiplied is 198.75 sidewall ratio height
235/85 multiplied is 199.75 sidewall ratio height

A millimeter?? That's not enough difference to even recalibrate the speedo. But if you like wider tires, the 265's are about an inch wider overall.

Walmart and Sam's Club sell Michelin XPS. Even though they are expensive tires, they have the best prices I've found. And typically I've heard Walmart doesn't hassle you over installing tires you are paying for. I could understand if you were asking for 38" Superswampinators on a 7 inch rim, but hassle over a slightly THINNER tire? Ludicrous. Take your hard-earned money elsewhere.

I plan to buy 6 [six! ouch!] XPS tractions before winter. That assuming I scrape together the $1200 buckeroos. A tall price to pay, but I have no doubt it will be worth it.

HTH-
