Honda EU2000

Will a Honda EU2000 run a 26ft cabin cruiser boat? Will it be too loud in the engine compartment?

Re: Honda EU2000

I am not sure. I bought the boat used and have no idea as to what size of AC it has.

Re: Honda EU2000

Boat engine rooms/compartments are usually well insulated and sound proofed so the Honda will probably be hardly noticed. How do you propose to run the exhaust? Unless you are going to run the bilge exhaust fan all the time.
You may run into a CO issue.

Probably not with the AC running. Max sustained output is 1,600 watts. Max "surge" output is 2,000 watts for a few seconds only. I know my EU2000i won't even think about starting the 15,000 BTU AC in my RV.

But your answer is probably two EU2000i tied together, producing 3,200 watts continuous. When you need the AC, you'll have to crank both generators. But when you don't need the AC, one will easily run the rest of the boat, unless Sweetheart decides to run the microwave, coffee pot, hair dryer, toaster, electric skillet and waffle iron all at the same time, while the heat-strip powered reefer is trying to cool off some warm beer and the inverter is trying to charge low boat batteries.

Remember, with only 1,600 watts available from one EU2000i, you'll probably have to pick and choose which electric things are running at the same time.

BTW, the microwave draws a lot more juice than most folks realize.

"Too loud" is subjective. But there is no such thing as any generator putting out 1,600 watts that is quieter without huge mufflers to reduce the noise level.

And regardless of which generator(s) you go with, you'll need to pipe the exhaust gasses out of the boat, somehow - unless your "engine compartment" always has lots of fresh air flowing through it.

Re: Honda EU2000

I found out that the AC is a 7000 BTU unit. I planned on leaving the blowers on, routing a make shift exhaust pipe and having a fan on in the engine compartment. Will that generator run that AC?

I do believe that the Honda will run that A/C. Be carefull of what else you try to run along with it though. It may be that running the generator without the Econo on would be the way to go.

You can't go wrong with trying to get the exhaust out of the engine compartment. I have given the exhaust some thought and think that by removing the spark arrester and welding a short section of pipe to extend the outlet should allow you to attach a section of flex pipe like armoured electrical cable. Then use 3/4" EMT to run the exhaust overboard. This piping would require some type of insulation lagging or better would be a wet exhaust but that would require a pump of some type.

The exhaust outlet on the 2000 is about 13MM and 1/2" EMT could work but you shouldn't add any back pressure with the extra pipe/length and so that's why I suggest 3/4" EMT.

Good Luck,
Capt Ron

Re: Honda EU2000

I have know a number of folks that take this generator with them on ocean trips. It is small, light weight, runs most anything, and can recharge your batteries if needed. That said, why not go to a local rental shop and rent one? That way you can test it as much as you want. I think it should work fine...but a weekend rental is cheap.

Re: Honda EU2000

Why not put the generator on the deck? I think you are going to run into heat, noise and exhaust problems with the generator in the engine compartment. I have 2 of the EU2000i and they put out a lot of heat especially pulling a load like an AC. I doubt the bilge blower will keep all the heat out of the engine compartment put out by the generator.
