trying to get my new-to-me boat trailer wired up for my truck. Trailer has a flat 5 connector. Truck has a flat 4 connector, and the round 7 connector.
(the fifth pin on the trailer connector is for the "brake lock-out" solenoid)
So......the only issue I am having is that there is not 12 volts present on the center pin when I have the truck in reverse.....all of the other lights are working normally.
Manuel (Mitchel online) calls for a "trailer tow relay". Fuse panel under the dash is full except for 3 spaces.....(211, 212, 213 I believe) which owners manuel says "not used". These appear to be a half sized, 5 pin relay socket.
NAPA looked in their computer system, says that the full sized relay is all they show.......
Under the hood, there is a small box just behind the airbox, with 1 regular size relay, and 2 of these "smaller sized" relays.......point being, NO EMPTY SOCKET.
anybody have a suggestion where I should be looking for this Trailer Tow Relay?
THanks in advance, this website has saved me alot of grief! <img>

I use a 7(RV) to 5 flat adapter (Peterson V5415 4" 7 to 5-Way Harness Adapter-Product Description; 7-Way to 5-Way Adapter allows connection of a 5-way flat trailer plug to a 7-way receptacle. Designed to be used with boat and utility trailers with certain hydraulic surge brakes) w/my boat trailer...the 5th pin is energized by the revverse lights activating the solenoid to prevent the trailer brakes from activating while in reverse...mine is a molded adapter, I have also seen it available as a "pigtail style" you could always make your own as well....
The 5-wire trailer connector is usually
yellow = L stop and turn light
green = R stop and turn light
brown = tail, license and side marker lights
blue = 12 volt hot, used for battery charger or backup lights or whatever.
white = ground
If you mean the blue wire, and you use it for backup lights, then on my '99 it's fuse #4 in the power distribution box plus relay #38 under the hood. For trailer tow battery charge, it's relay #39 under the hood. Relays 38, 39, and 40 are in those little relay boxes outside the power distribution box where some fuses and other relays are located.
But your 2003 is different, so look them up in your Owner's Guide. The trailer tow pkg was standard on your 2003, so you already have all the relays and fuses you need for a 7-wire trailer connector, including the "hot" 12 volt wire. You just need to locate them.

I guess, more specifically, the center pin of the 7 terminal connector is "supposed to be" hot when the truck shifts to reverse. Mine is not. the 12 volt terminal is hot, and all the other lights work fine.
I guess if the relay is already there....it may be bad. Yep, must be......

Sorry to high jack the thread but have an adapter question. Where can I get a n RV 7 pin or 6pin round to 7 pin Phillips adapter. If I can't what's the correct wiring to make a pig tail?

My trailer reverse light circuit is also protected by a large fuse. It's a 30 amp Maxi fuse in the power distribution box (which is where my relay also is).
I built my own...my 92' F250 w/factory trailer tow package was built w/7 pin "tractor trailer"? style plug and is what I have used/preferred for years...when I borrowed a friends RV I built my own 7 pin to 7 blade RV....

I guess I'm going to have to do the same. Do I just make straight connections following the diagram in the book or on the truck plug?
