Installing a onan genset

I was looking for any info or help you guys could give me. Im looking to install an onan emerald III genset in my fifth wheel. The unit is used and I beleive it to be about 6500 watts. The model number is 65NHEFA26100G and the serial number is D900312276. Any ways I beleive it to be gasoline unit so I would half to add a tank. Is this kind of setup possible? Looking for any help or hints on the install. The 5er is an 1991 terry taurus 30'.

Re: Installing a onan genset

I suggest you call your nearest Onan/Cummins dealer and ask them if they can tell you what you have. You may have some luck on the Onan website or by calling someplace like Camping World or a good reputable local RV dealer too.

Thanks Rich807 called local camping world and they wouldn't Look up the model or serial numbers for me. I have searched the onan website and when I look up the genset its only for parts. No information on the unit. Going to call cummins rocky mountain tomarrow.

Re: Installing a onan genset

Well the first digits of an Onan model are indeed the power rating and the letters are the basic model. The numbers after that I imagine are revision levels or something.

So yes you have a 6500 watt model, which is plenty of power in my experience. In fact 4000 is usually enough. Installation requirements are no big thing. Cooling air in and out, exhaust out, access for service, and about 7 wires for power and control.

Now mounting it in the particular trailer, that I don't know about. One thing I have always thought, though, was that to load it in the truck instead might be nice to keep the noise and vibration isolated from the trailer.
