Installing a Reese Signature Series in an '08 450 pickup
I ordered online a Reese Signature Series 24k hitch for our '08 F-450. Got it last week and Saturday I installed the mount on the truck. Directions were pretty clear and easy to follow. It took me about 4 hours and I took my time, the outside temps were in the high 90's and real humid, I was not too comfy. I did the install with the tires on the truck, if they were removed it would simplify things. This type of hitch does not have conventional fifth wheel hitch "bed rails", but instead mounts underneath with only four 2&1/2" diameter "pucks" as Reese calls them sticking up about 1/2" above the bed floor. Four holes are drilled in the frame rails, two per side. I had to buy an odd size bit and the hole saw for the bed cutouts. A small section of the underside of the bed, a flange, has to be bent to facilitate sliding the cross pieces between the bed and frame. The exhaust pipe Does Not need to be lowered, I had plenty of clearance. After inserting the pieces, I bent the flange back in place. The staggered shocks block one bolt hole, you have to fish one bolt from the backside of the frame rails to secure the plates against the rails. I really like this installation for it's simplicity and lack of the bed rails in the bed. Use to get lots of gravel and mulch trapped under the rails on the last truck.
