Issue with new Prodigy and/or trailer brakes

Just put my new Prodigey in this week. Veyr happy with it on my 4 horse trailer. Hooked up to the 2 horse and it displayed NC-no trailer connected. Took the plug apart and had my wife work the manual lever. I had power to the plug, through the plug, and at all 4 magnets. Any idea why it'd say NC? I don't know if the thing is "smart" enough to sense a bad magnet and just won't work at all or what might be going on. Just looking for some input before I start throwing money at it till it works.

Well, if one trailer works and the other doesn't you have eliminated the truck as the problem. I would check your ground on the trailer side. Some believe that it will ground through the ball I have found this to be incorrect.

Check each ground on the brakes (pull on the wire to make sure you have a good connection) Then run a jumper from a good ground location on the trailer to a good ground on the truck.

Check your grounds as suggested. When I connected my Tekonsha P3 the first time it said 'NC' and then "Open Ground'. I jiggled the plug side of the trailer connection and it didn't help change the display but all the trailer lights were working. As soon as I towed it about a mile the brakes were working fine. I think the ball mount was rusty and making poor contact. I love all the great functions on this controller especially the boost settings and back-up override.

I manage a trailer mfg company, and the way I wire trailers is every light, brake etc is grounded through the plug, which in turn grounds to the Breakaway kit. We also have 2 ground wires drilled into the frame of the trailer, one at the axles and the other at the breakaway kit.

Not too sure if you have fixed your problem but I had come accross the same problem with my prodigy. I started with the simplest solution and cleaned the contacts on both the 7-pin plug connection on the back of the truck AND the trailer plug. A little paitents and som fine grit sandpaper....No more connection problem.

I have found that it doesn't take long for corrosion to appear in the plug of my travel trailer here in Southeast Louisiana.

to clean the contacts on the seven pin plugs I use a finger nail board trimmed to a useable width. Have use this for many years
