Jordan braker controler-Easy install?

With this brake controler(Jordan Ultima)was it easy to wire up even with the plug-in connector under the dash.Is the Teknosha Prodigy a better controler. Thanks Joe

Re: Jordan braker controler-Easy install?

I don't know anything about the Tekosha, but I'll tell you about my Jordan. No it isnt a piece of cake. although it depends how anal you are. It took me a while to install my controller. One because I put it in my cubby hole, which took some time to rout it. Two, placing the cable on the brake pedal in the correct spot for the right amount of travel takes a few tries unless you get lucky. Three, which I have yet to deal with, the plastic trim under my steering wheel flexes some when I apply the brakes and the cable pulls on it. Not a big deal, but I'd like to fix it someday. But all in all once your done with the install the controller works nicely and correctly.

Re: Jordan braker controler-Easy install?

I've installed two Jordans now and not a problem. The Jordan is way superior to the Prodigy. The Prodigy is just an electronic verion of the old inertia type controllers with a ramp up and boost feature. I sold my Prodigy at a gartage sale after ONE trip and got a Jordan and never been happier.

Never used the prodigy, looks like an easy install, have heard of people having problems on hills with them, but lots of people like them.

I bought the Jordan because:
1) My tekonsha pedulum type controller sucked.
2) Couldnt justify a Brakesmart.
3) Never heard a bad report about the Jordan, I had heard a few bad reports about the prodigy

Install was easy but time consuming.
Most of the time was taken reading, understanding, and then planning the installation place and cable routing to avoid any problems during physical install.
Took me about 4 hours including all planning, the actual install itself was probably less than an hour.
I too put mine in the cubby and this does make the cable routing more challenging hence the long planning stage.

I cannot comment on how well the Jordan works as I have not taken it towing yet. The only person I have come across that has used all 3 top controllers (brakesmart, jordan and prodigy) says this:

"I've used all the big three brake controllers: BrakeSmart (same as Hensley TruControl), Jordan 2020 and Prodigy. Before that I had a Kelsey Hayes (hated it).

In my opinion and experience I would rate them:

#1: BrakeSmart (also sold as Hensley TruControl) by MasterBrake Corp. Most technologically advanced brake controller on the US market. My current controller. It is a fantastic controller. Best I've ever used. It will work with electric/hydraulic brakes.

#2: Jordan 2020 Ultima. Very smooth. But mechanical parts are a long term worry. Cable can slip. If you can't afford the BrakeSmart, this is the controller to buy.

#3: Prodigy by Tekonsha. Good controller. Simple installation. Not nearly as smooth as either of the BrakeSmart or Jordan. Good choice as an emergency spare back-up or for if you have very limited installation skills.

There will be a third controller to hit the US market soon. Sens-a-Brake (www.sensabrake.com) looks to be an excellent controller. It is a product of New Zealand and will be introduced to the US market in the next few months. I expect it to compete with the Jordan. The Prodigy will slip to fourth place. MSRP for the Sens-a-Brake is $219.

Do not buy any controller not listed above. All time delay and pendulum type proportional controllers are inferior to the BrakeSmart, Jordan, Prodigy and soon to be released Sens-a-Brake."

Hope that helps
