I have a 4,000lb dump trailer, cargo only weighed 1,000 lbs, so 5,000 total. All around town mileage is 13mpg. this was with the 33 inch tires. My usual around town is 15.5 with the 33s. When i filled the 6x12 dump with wood, i got 12mpg. What do you think? WILL a chip from JODY really help towing mileage? The truck is in the sig. Thanks

I'd like to get that kind of mileage. I tow an 8k lb. travel trailer and only get between 9 - 10 mpg on the freeway. I think a lot of that is the fact that it's 11' tall and completely flat in front, so it's like towing a wall with the wind blowing against it...

sounds good to me. I tow a 8500lb travel trailer and get between 9-10mpg, although as said above it is like pushing a wall thru the air. Yours sounds about right. I am sure the 40 tow or 80 econo tune will help a little if you can keep your foot out of it.

Sounds about right to me. I get about 13 towing my boat. I just finished a 1800 mile round trip with my fifth wheel, which weighs in about 11,000 pounds. I figured up my mileage to be around 10mpg.
I dont have any performance mods yet. but i am definitely going with exhaust and guages before the summer heat hits. Towing this much weight anything will help. I would like to get a mild program for extra umph. I am just gun shy with what ive read on here.
From my experince that mileage is good. Are you sure it was not 12 round trip (maybe half empty/half full??)
Anyway, every truck I have had has went down in mileage considerably when towing. My "lite" load, is the 2 ATV's, and a small 12ft flat deck trailer. All together I doubt its 2500 pounds, but I only get 12 to 13 on highway with it, and only 6 mpg with the camper, approx 18k there.

Your mileage with a 6-speed manual tranny (unloaded or loaded) should be better in my opinion. Maybe it is the lift and/or tires increasing your aerodynamic resistance/rolling resistance. My '02 got nearly 12 mpg weighing in at >26,000 lbs towing in the hills of Southern Ohio/Northern Kentucky and I have a dually 4:10 with a slush box and no chip. Of course that was not city driving but that horse trailer has a huge frontal area.

Does your trailer have a wire grid loading ramp? I can tow my 2200lb trailer with a 3400lb car on it and get better fuel mileage than I can pulling a 6x8 trailer with a motorcycle on it witht the wire mesh ramp on it. Those wire grid ramps don't do much for mileage!

On our most recent, Xmas trip, hauling two horses in my signature CM 4 horse aluminum Winstar, I put the rig on a CAT scale. Result: 15,050 gross combined weight, wet, not counting the lovely spouse and me [another 350 or so]. Bad news was the 8800 limit: adding the wife and I to the load puts us right at the limit [need to cull out the junk in the toolbox....]. Good news is that we got right at 15 mpg, with maybe 90% of tank(s) of fuel towing this full load, much of it at or near 65-70 mph on the interstate. Weird, but it seems I got better mileage with this heavier load than I had in a summer trip with our previous, smaller trailer [same model, but the 2 horse]. Only 'changes' that could have effected this were the addition of the BTM [which has a marginally louder, deeper exhaust note than stock, IMHO] and switch to Castrol oil from Rotella. Note than mine is a 2wd, without lifts or biggie tires; I run Michelin M/S in 235/86-16. It appears that 15 mpg towing this much weight is about as good as it gets.

Alright. I see everybodies (or almost everybodies) signature with mods or chips. Guess I should add one too eh? What are some good ones for improving gas mileage? Without any mods or chips.. What kind of MPG should I expect towing a 15,500 lb trailer at around 65mph with a new F-350 Diesel 4x4 crew cab with the tow boss? Any Ideas? Just curious.

Just be very careful about any mods you do. FoMoCo will deny warranty coverage in a hurry if you have any mods which they feel contribute to the problem. Be ready to pay for repairs out of pocket if this is the case.
With your set up, and that's a lot of trailer, I would expect you to see 8-10 towing. Hmm, 'bout the same I used to get with the F150 gasser towing a 5000# TT. Don't miss that at all.
