BrakeSmart in service since July 2004. It now will only display
68 PSI on display no matter how much you depress brake pedal.
Before it would display 1400-1500 PSI at full brake applications.
Will check fuse in back next date(no time today).
Any ideas as to what else I should check Thanks
Horses do you know what you are talking about. The fuse for your information is for the BRAKE LIGHTS. take out the fuse and you have no brakelights or activation. Illumination or display is fused from the truck. It can allso be changed up to a 25 amp depending on the lights you have installed on your truck. Believe me Bill and I have have found all kinds of ways to change brakesmart. Great controler does about anythink electronic.
I talked with Steve at BrakeSmart today. He thinks problem is with
the control unit itself Not the sensor unit. I'll switch out my control
head with my father in law's unit and see if that corrects it.
BrakeSmart has customer service as it should be-Steve told me I
could call him on Sunday if needed
Bull make sure the three wires are hooked up the three little on the top of the controllewr. the one that goes to the sincer. Just went out and did some checks on the brakesmart we have for testing problems. With the sencer wires unhooked or hooked up wrong the give the same reading as you said. also check the conection on the sencer.
Thanks for checking.Truck is not at home at this time but I plan
on going over all connections/wiring etc before switching out
control units. BullRun 1861

[/ QUOTE ]According to the literature that came with my BrakeSmart unit, the 15 amp fuse on the back of the unit was only for the illumination of the controller unit. Their manual has been incorrect in other respects so this would not be the first time. I did not take the fuse out to see what was affected.

UPDATE
Checked all wiring/connections etc with no problems found
Removed my control head from my 04 F250 6.0 placed it
in my father in laws Chev 2500 Duramax who also has a Brake Smart
Results were that my control head worked at some times and then it reverted back to 68 PSI regardless of brake pedal pressure.
Father in laws control head in my F250 had same results as above
Switching control heads to orginal vehicles had same problem.
I also checked voltage at blue and white wires at back of control
head, when unit shows 68 PSI only 2 volts are transmitted to trailer
brakes, when display shows 1400-1500 PSI I have 13-14 volts transmitted
Steve at BrakeSmart was contacted and was very helpful will ship both control heads back next date.I'll update later in case anyboby run in
same problems
Not too bad-I do alot for him other wise and if its something I
did I'll pay for repairs.Starting to think this may have been occuring with both units for a while and we never payed attention to The PSI readout until now. Both shipped out within 45 days of each other
Problem corrected
Steve at Brake Smart checked out both control heads and found
no problems. He shipped them back along with two pressure sensors and
a wiring harness. When I installed the control units, still had a
problem. Next step, I installed new pressure sensors and all appears
as it should. Hopefully no more problems.
Very good customer service from Brake Smart
