New Hitch

Decided to upgrade my hitch because I really didn't know what the rating was on the old hitch, plus it was worn out. Got my new ultra frame Draw-Tite hitch today and seems like there is a ton of play in the receiver? At least a 1/8 of play. My older hitch is tighter than the new one. Don't know the brand. The draw-tites use the "J pin" so it would tighten up the hitch, but is this too much play? Video of the hitch posted first.

It sounds like you have a new receiver, and the shank of your weight-distributing hitch, or the old weight-carrying ball mount/drawbar, is a loose fit in the receiver tube. If that's the case, and assuming both the receiver and the drawbar or shank are 2" parts, then nothing to worry about. The pin (J-pin?) that holds the drawbar or shank in the receiver is what needs to be a tight fit. So the holes for that pin in both the drawbar and the receiver needs to be identical diameter so the pin of the proper diameter will fit snuggly in there.

With the pin installed, there should not be more than a smidgen of back-and-forth movement of the shank in the receiver.

DrawTite makes a Class 5 Ultra Frame receiver with a 2" receiver.

However, they also make the much more popular class 5 receiver with a 2.5" receiver. If the receiver is a 2.5" receiver and the drawbar/shank is a 2" jobbie, then you need an adapter to convert the 2.5" receiver into a 2" receiver.

After watching the video it looks like you have a 2" ball mount in a 2.5" receiver??

Well I don't like all this slack in the receiver so this hitch is getting sent back. What hitches are you guys using?
