new trailer performance boost
Pulled the newer gn this weekend. Wheelbase is a little longer than the previous flatbed and I'm loading more on my hitch. And with better weight info on the load, the hitch now sees about 15%, before it was 10%. Total GCVW is around 27K.
The big change in trailers though is load range G 7.50-16 ST tires, more air pressure and narrower. The old trailer had one hub bent with too much toe-in and wider tires. The other change is now I have disc brakes instead of shoes. Maybe the discs have less drag.
In any case, I gained a good 100 rpm (now a comfy 2700) cruising flat with more reserve going up slight hills. I have to let up on the pedal now to keep it at 2600 (55 mph). I'll attribute the improvement to the newer trailer. I haven't done anything with the engine lately but when it works heavy it runs nice and clean, and doesn't use oil. Running with no trailer, she smokes and drinks.
It drove great for the 400 miles this weekend. I'll be keeping this truck for the foreseeable future. And those electric over hydraulic disc brakes-they're great.
