New Travel Trailor...suggestions/tips for proper set-up
Will pick up the 33' Cougar on Monday. I just wanted some suggestions about equipment and rigging for towing safely. The trailer weighs 7k dry and has a 9k gross weight. My X weighs 8k and has the factory Ford class V hitch. The sticker says 5k/500lbs or 12,500/1250 WD. I'm having an Equalizer 4 point hitch installed that day as well. I've towed heavy stuff in the past w/ PSD pick-ups, but know the Excursion's can be a little squirrelly. Anything else I should consider?
Thanks,
Lane

Just make sure your tires on the X are inflated to max recomended pressue. Start out slow until you get accustomed to the new combo.
Godd luck and be safe, Joe

I agree with you about the Excursions being a litle squirrelly. I used to pull my 34 ft trailer with a F350 dually and it always felt as solid as a rock. When I started using the Excusion as my TV, I made the mods in my signature below but never felt really safe until I bought the Hensley hitch.

I have a Cougar 304 and one thing that I learned was that it tows twitchy if the tongue is level or high. I found that my setup tows best if the tongue is about an inch low when it is loaded and ready to roll. You have to look hard to see it and I was able to adjust just by moving the head down 1 hole.
