Can I use a 08 F250 diesel as an hot shot truck in the oil field. I have an oppurtunity to do so but Iam wondering if this truck is to small to haul a 40ft gooseneck with around 13000 pounds?
i think thats pushing the weights it would need to be a light hitch weight with a tri axle trailer and brakes on all axles (youll be over but many fvers are too)

Is the trailer total 13k or the load only 13k? You would be better off with a dually, but the 250 will do it. for how long, who knows.

I live in the middle of the Permian Basin oil patch. There are several "hot shot" trucking companies around here. The successful oil-field trucking industry companies will have several sizes of trucks, but all of them use as a minimum a "one ton dually" as the tow vehicle. And the trailers towed by the pickups are almost always BigTex 40' dual tandam gooseneck trailers with two 10k axles.
The only time an SRW pickup is used is when the last available dually broke down and they have an emergency call to get a lightweight gizmo to the drilling rig in a jiffy. In that case, they might use the bosses' wife's personal King Ranch F-250. But when they buy a "company" truck, it's a dually.
