Hi All - Have been doing some research to find out how much weight I can legally tow in Oregon but have not found a solid answer.
From what I have seen the GVWR cannot exceed 26,000lbs. Is this correct?
I will be towing hay across the state with my 08 F450; has anyone had problems with DOT pulling them over or making them weigh while doing cross state runs?

being from oregon, best i can remember is all the scales says rigs over 26000 must weigh. Unless you are towing something obviously large i wouldn't concern yourself with it. I tow quite a bith with my 08 and my moms dually, and we haul tractors with the inlaws equipment trailer and havent been bothered once

I saw a F250 in Ohio on Tuesday that was pulling a 5er tandem axle trailer with oversize banners - the truck had no name, no DOT #, nothing and went thought the scales - they made him come in.....

You can tow any weight RV trailer (which includes car and horse trailers with living quarters) in Oregon.
The 26,000 pounds rule comes into play for licensing, and is the same as federal. If over 26k, you need a CDL. If your truck will be used for interstate commerce, than the truck must have a DOT number and commercial plates.
edit: just re-read and saw the comment on hay... If you have agriculture plates, or if your state's driver's license allows you to haul agriculture products above 26,000 you are okay.

First its dang hard to get ANY solid answers. Talk to 4 DOT Commercial inspectors and get 3 answers. (and a fight)
It is true there are many variables. (at least in MN) Are you hauling for hire? within 150 miles of the farm? Is hauling the PRIMARY reason you are hired? (if you are not owner) etc.etc.etc
I go well over 26k total load. (remember truck is over 8k alone) Trailer has axles for 21k. The only "issues" I have ever had a repeateable comment on is axle/tire weight limits, the max weight per sq in of tire that is in contact with road. if trailer is lic for weight. (they don't care if your trailer only has axles for 10k you can lic it for 15k and they will be happy to take the money)
