Price for hauling wide load.

I will make some calls but would like to get am impartial price guesstamint. The load would be a 50k lb dozer with 14' blade that would need to come off and loaded separatly. It needs to be hauled 350 miles.I know some people here are drivers and was just trying to get an ideal to start from.

Re: Price for hauling wide load.

Off the top of my head by the time you get the blade off and loaded and all the other red tape. Without knowing the specifics of what state your in, or the going rate for lowbed transport. I say (holds hand to head) $2,500. now that's California's rate for a good lowbed. Cant remember if you need a pilot car for 11' wide don't think you do. Knowing how screwed pricing is here in CA i would suspect you will pay far less in any other area.

With all that said I don't have a lot of heavy hauling that I need done. Maybe once every other year so this is a semi educated WAG.

Re: Price for hauling wide load.

I charge (as Service Manager at a John Deere dealer) $4/loaded mile for a truck/equipment trailer, and would maybe swing a deal for that kind of mileage, on the long side for what I normally do. (the longer the trip, the better the margin, due to time loading/unloading)

Re: Price for hauling wide load.

From what I have learned from scale guys, the cost is directly related to being caught or not.

Re: Price for hauling wide load.

For a load like that, we would be about $8/mile. It sounds steep, but after you figure the cost of permits, fuel, maintenance, driver wages, paying for the truck and lowboy, and a small portion to be used as profit, it's really a good price. Trucking companies are going under left and right because they are trying to raise their prices to compensate for higher fuel prices, but people get scared off when you quote them a price like that.

$2500 is cheap, you will need oversize and overweight permits.

80,000 lb limit, the unit weighs around 50K, a lowboy and tractor to handle it will weigh almost 40K. Overweight permits required, also invloves route planning. I believe over 10 feet needs escorts also.
