Prodigy Brake Controller Installed Today - Lights stay on???

I installed a Prodigy Brake Controller today. Thanks to those of you who post on this part of the website....I followed the advice of a lot of you and spent the extra money for the Prodigy....and thanks to the fellow who posted a picture showing the brake controller installed in the small storage area to the right of the steering column. I put mine there and it's a neat looking job and out of the way.

With the truck parked in the garage, two small red lights are still on. Is this normal?

They look like they could be burglar alarm lights, so they really don't bug me, but I don't know if they will drain the battery. Should I unplug the unit when I'm not towing?

I like the controller a lot. It's a lot better than the one I had before....plus an F-350 dually with 4.10 makes towing a lot better than my previous F-250 with 3.73 rear end. North Carolina, here I come for Labor Day!

Re: Prodigy Brake Controller Installed Today - Lights stay on???

The 2 lights will stay on for around 15 minutes and will come back on when the brake pedal is applied. This is a normal condition of the Prodigy brake controller.
Another thing I noticed is when the trailer is hooked up and it is quiet out you can hear a slight apply noise from the trailer brakes and this is normal too. This is checking the trailer brake circuit for opens and shorts.
I also installed my Prodigy controller in the cubby hole to the right of the steering column, its just wedged in there, and it works and looks like a factory install. There are some pics of this in my signature.

Re: Prodigy Brake Controller Installed Today - Lights stay on???

Yep. Lights are normal. Been on in my truck for three years and never run anything down. They just little LED's telling you its powered up and seeing the brake power. They will go out in a while and not come back on till you crank the truck next time and put the brake on. Nothing to worry about. Normal. Occasional dissconect signal when not hooked up too. thats normal too because... its not hooked up!

Mainly you want to see the hooked up signal and variable voltage read out when hooked up. Thats showing its working.

When not hooked up. It's got to tell ya its not and its working. Thats its job. Its not smart enough to know you could care less then. So its working if you see what your describing.

Wedging it in there is neat idea, but can you still use button and dial easily? I mounted it under dash, but I could see how a long legged person might hit thier knee on it.

This is how mine looks and all the controls are easily reached and visible while driving.
