That prodigy controller is amazing. Last night I got her hooked up to my 13,000# fiver and and I thought for sure it wasnt working so I slammed on the brakes at 30mph and I actually heard the wheels slide!!!!
I currently have a cheaper unit that i picked up at the local auto parts store. What is the big difference?

IMO it is much smoother than the cheaper units I have used in the past. I had a voyager and during braking I could feel the brakes release after my truck pedal was to the top. And it seemed I was always adjusting. The prodigy is progressive so if your sitting still and hit the brakes no power goes till the guts of the unit feel you braking. I like it.
You all think your braking systems are nice. You haven't tried the Brake Smart yet. I got one of them before they had all their problems. WOW! You talk about smooth. My 5er. weighs 14K give or take a few lbs. Never a problem in over 24K towing.

Just took out my old Tekonsha Voyager and put in a new Tekonsha Prodigy P3. WOW what a differnce! Smooth as silk, and I really like the boost options. Also can be switched for electric/hydraulic brakes, digital display, and troubleshooting. Best one I've ever used...

I am surprised at the Prodigy lovers based on my experience with heavy trailers (16-18K). I couldn't get high level braking with these trailer loads unless I went to boost 3 and adjusted the gain and then I had brake overapply the instant brake lights come on when going slow.
Dealer replaced the unit and it was the same.
I loved it with my 10-11K livestock trailer.
I wish I had gotten one that worked like so many of you say they work.
I am using the old fashioned hydraulic one tied into master cylinder and it is great. Brake pedal pressure DIRECTLY controls current to brakes at any speed or load.
Brakesmart sounds to be a good unit but I didn't want to spend that much when I had a good controller sitting on the shelf.
I did several full on test on gravel roads with sliding trucks tires and full level ABS activation and there were NO ill effects.

Hey Sabre,
Does your P3 light up every time you get in the truck? Just put mine in Monday, it's kinda' annoying having it light up w/o a trailer. I assume it's wired correctly since I used their pigtail.
