pulling v-nose trailer

I was wanting to know if a vnose pulls beter than a flat nose.
some one told me that in a head wind it would pull the truck all over the place , but I have a 8.5x20 flat nose that pulls pretty bad in a wind. also does a vnose help alot on MPG?

Re: pulling v-nose trailer

I have a v nose that is 8.5' wide 24' long and over 10' high (7.5' internal). From what I can tell the little that I have towed the trailer the vnose helps. It works better than that silver wing that mounts to the top of your truck. I would think that as long as the nose is centered on the trailer the head wind will make no difference in fact that is why the v nose was created to help with aero dynamics plus an extra 3.5' of cargo area. I'd like to hear his reasoning behind that one! I've been pulling a V-nose for about 16 years now and they can't be beat, lots of advantages. WAY less wind resistance, I can have more weight in it and it will pull easier than my lighter flat nose gooseneck travel trailer, therefore I'd say the fuel mileage obviously has to be slightly better. And heading west against the wonderful 50+mph Wyoming wind is where a V-nose really shines, BIG difference. Also you can jack-knife a V-nose so tight if needed, you can almost reach out the driver's window and touch the side of the trailer nose. It won't come close to hitting the cab rear window, toolbox, etc.

Re: pulling v-nose trailer

We have two 16 foot v-nose trailers that we drag around regularly. I tend to overload them quit frequently but they tow really nice. I am accustomed to towing another 24ft & 16ft flat nosed trailer and there is no comparison. On the interstate when passing (or being passed) by a big rig the flat nosed trailers reacted unpredictably at times and any strong winds felt like you were dragging a parachute.

I've never closely checked my mileage because I knew no matter what I did it was going to drop when towing. My one complaint with the V-nose, at least ours, is that the manufaturer covered the "vee" with chrome "stone guard". Yeah it looks good, but when towing at night it drives me crazy. The angle is just enough that opposing traffic headlights cause a quick "flash" in the rear view mirror that always catches my attention and then aggravates me cause "I did it again!". I usually angle the mirror toward the ceiling since it's pretty much useless when towing anyway. I guess it's part of my attraction to shiney things . This is a small aggravation to say the least.

IMHO the "vee's" are easier to tow than the standard flat nosed. bOOmer

Re: pulling v-nose trailer

The truck only has around 600 miles on it so I havent done much towing with it but early milage 70 miles round trip 50%/city 11/12 mpg with the trailer weighing in at 6000 lbs I also have the stone guard on the nose and have the lights flashing at night syndrome but I have the auto tinting mirror so it doesn't effect me at night.
