Pullrite Superglide hitch

Is the Pullrite Superglide hitch worth the money over a manual actuated sliding hitch?

Re: Pullrite Superglide hitch

That depends on your memory and ability to keep track of the trailer when you are distracted.

For instance; When you are at your day job, number 1 quits while number 2 is on fire. Are you going to remember your box lunch when you jump out?

The pullrite also requires clearance around it as it moves back & forth. I tend to pack the bed full of crap so I'd have to change my habits. I do like them though.

Re: Pullrite Superglide hitch

I have had both. The Superglide is worth the money. This is one slick hitch in more than just it's ability to save your cab/trailer from damage. Until you have pulled with one, you won't understand how truly great this hitch is. All I can say it that if you have a short bed truck, there is no other hitch worth looking at.

Superglide

[/ QUOTE ]
I had seen the PullRite SuperGlide just when I bought my Reese. I have had absolutely no problems with my Reese, never hit the cab and no concerns with entering driveways at filling stations.

However, after seeing their video on the mfg, I wish I would have spent the money. As the others say, it more then just the auto slider...it is a very well made hitch.

Just remember, you cannot pull your trailer with a standard hitch without removing the 'rudder' piece that you have to add to the pinbox. Not a bit deal if you mount with screws/bolts...no welding.

You cannot pull a trailer with a std pin box either. The hitch never knows where it should be without the rudder (see Frequently Asked Questions Here: Technical Bulletin -
Superglide instructions here

Any slider will require clear space around it to move when sliding.

Re: Pullrite Superglide hitch

I love mine, I have the 12k unit and pull a 32' Sandpiper. This was my first fifth wheel and I picked it up 1200 mi. from home, the guy who sold me the trailer was walking beside my truck as we pulled it around his rv building on a gravel , rutted road and kept saying "amazing" as I was doing tight turns. Yeah, I don't like the idea of the adapter plate in case of a breakdown, but if worse comes to worse the pinbox isn't that hard to pull off and put another on. I had a guy weld on the adapter and he also put gussets on the front so it wouldn't deform from repeated hookups. Baptism by fire pulling my first 5v'r 1200 mi. home and was totally comfortable with it at the end of the first day. Never a TT again if I can help it, just wish I had a dually.

Re: Pullrite Superglide hitch

I've been using mine for three years now. I have pulled a 5vr without the adapter on the pinbox. I used "C" clamps to lock the hitchhead so it would act as a regular hitch. It worked for a short move. I'm going to drill holes in the base of the hitchhead & the slide rails so I can just pin it next time I need to move a trailer without the adapter.

Re: Pullrite Superglide hitch

Army Pilot,
It's me again. I answered your other question about custom exhaust clearance.
As I told you before, I don't regret a dime of the money I spent on the hitch. If you go to the Superglide website they will send you a free videotape that explains how their automatic slider hitches work. The really great thing about the Superglide hitches (as with all Pullright 5th wheel hitches) is the hitching mechanism itsself. Instead of a couple of "dog ears" that close around the back of the trailer's kingpin, all Pullright hitches have a gear operated single piece closure that wraps completly around the kingpin tightly with no gaps. It's hard to explain, but the videotape does a really good job of that. It is also very precision cut so that there is so little (if any) space or slack that you will never feel the usual bump associated with 5th wheel towing. I will never go back to anything else.
As you probably already know, these Superglides are expensive. For me, it's worth the safety if nothing else. I financed the hitch along with the trailer so it was somewhat less painful.
Please feel free to PM me or give me a call and we can talk some more if you want. In the meantime, go ahead and get the video.
Good luck.

This is a very important point. My Reese was always bumping and it drove me crazy. Also, the "dog ears" as you describe them always made me nervous that the hitch would unhook. When hooking up the Superglide, as I backup and hear the "clank" of the hitch engage, I know that I am connected tightly. The Superglide leaves no doubt about it and it pulls terrific. No worries, no bump, no cab contact, no problems. Worth every penny.

Re: Pullrite Superglide hitch

Thanks guys I appreciate your comments a bunch. I am pretty much sold on it. I looked at one at the dealer where I am looking to buy my trailer. They are pricing the 16K hitch at $2350 installed with the specific brackets for the easy removal not the universal bars. How does that sound for price? That includes the electric wiring into the bed also.

Re: Pullrite Superglide hitch

That is a terrific price. Most of the time they are in the upper 2's.

Also, mine has the brackets to allow you to pull the unit out. It is great, nothing left in the bed and it pops out easily.

Re: Pullrite Superglide hitch

I've had my Superglide for more than a year and love it. Anythig that makes towing easier and "idiot proof" is a plus. You can drive your shortbed like you had a standard hitch in a longbed.

Re: Pullrite Superglide hitch

Whoah, no offense, but I think If I had that kind of change burning a hole in my pocket, I would trade my old 5th wheel in on something newer

I spent a whole month's allowance on the firestone air bags

Re: Pullrite Superglide hitch

If you own a drill and tape measure you should be able to mount one yourself. The 16K superglide can be purchased for $1799 with the super rail or $1449 with the universal mount including shipping. I don't know if they are available cheaper.

I mounted one with the universal rails yesterday in a Chevy 2500HD. It took me about 4 or 5 hours including a breakfast break and some other side jobs. You could pay yourself a good hourly rate and do it yourself.

I will probably buy one for myself but I have 3 issues with them.

1. No one can move your trailer without taking the mounting plate off the hitch (10 screws). That could be considered an anti-theft device
also.

2. You can't pull any one elses trailer that doesn't have the pullrite plate.

3. There is no height adjustment, at not with the universal mount.
2.

Re: Pullrite Superglide hitch

Hypoxia,

You're right. Nobody else can pull your trailer if they don't have the same hitch. My 5th wheel had to go to the factory (about 200 miles away) for warranty work. The dealer unbolted & removed the whole kingpin box and temporarily replaced it with another one. It was easier for them because the Pullright stuff is welded on mine. I guess if you had a breakdown and had to call for service or towing it would be good to mention this when you make the call.
This is a small drawback compared to the benefits and, as was mentioned, it's also a theft deterrent.

Re: Pullrite Superglide hitch

Well I found out there is an adapter plate that will allow a non pullrite equipped truck to tow the trailer. I will add one of these to my tool box.
