Putting connector in bed

Did Ford change the connectors in 2008? I am looking to use this 5th Wheel Trailer Harness 7 Way For Chevy, Chevrolet, Ford, GMC and Dodge Pickup Trucks .
It says it is for up to the 2007 model year.

Thanks for any info.....

Cool. Thanks. Never know with these manufacturers when they might change a connector.

Where did you put your connector inside the bed on your 2008 SuperDuty. I have been thinking about doing that on mine.

Help is always appreciated.

Thanks,

DRDON, I mounted one of these receptacles behind the driver's side tail light. There was plenty of room for the wires, the wire from the trailer has plenty of slack and it is somewhat protected under the bed rails.

Best thing I've done so far....

The best place is in front of the rear fender, on the side of the bed. Some put it in a stake pocket, others just in the sidewall of the bed. The advantage of having it in front of the wheelwell is that it's easy to reach when the traailer is tied on. If it's behind the wheelwell, then you have to reach under the 5er overhang to plug and unplug the cord.

Mine is behind the wheelwell, but every time I connect the trailer I wish I had located it in front of the wheel well.

Depends on the 7-pin receptical you buy. First buy the receptical, then look at it closely to see what needs to be done to install it in the side of the bed. Some need one big hole about 1.5" diameter. Others need 3 smaller holes, one for the wiring and two others for the bolts that hold it in.

Smokey is right on about placement. Mine is just inside the tailgate on the drivers side and I have to drop the gate and reach inside and underneath to plug in. Easier if all I had to do was reach over edge and plug in.

Question

Does this plug in the bed make the one under the bumper dead then? At times I use a bumper pull trailer and would not want to make the original plug in usless.

It does not render the bumper plug useless. If you buy the right kit, it is basically a pre-made splitter. The hardest part of the installation of the kit, is drilling the hole for the receptacle.

I agree with you. But here at the dealership I work at we starting mounting them behind the wheel well because alot of the 5er's with extended pins like to pull the cords out in hard turns. Its even worse with some slider hitches. Not saying all brands, but at least the brand we sell.
